Lead; why is it not weapons-grade?
« on: May 28, 2014, 03:09:25 am »

Lead has historically been used for maces and warhammers, so why is it not considered weapons-grade, yet silver is? I understand it should be terrible for sharp weapons, but it would make excellent blunt weapons.

Lead can be forged into minecart.

It's too soft and malleable, lead only worked as a weapons material when people couldn't find any copper before iron-working became a thing.

I like lead as a standard blacksmith trainer anyhow.

Silver is itself questionable, but it is still considerably less malleable than lead - while you wouldn't make a sword out of it, it's still more effective for warhammers (which are thin, but blunt) than lead would be. Lead is so soft that historically it was only used as cores for blunt weapons (lead wrapped in iron, for example) to increase their heft.

Silver is only weapons-grade because it was meant to cause extra damage to werewolves and such. This was never implemented though, IIRC.

There are creatures in adventure mode that are specifically weak against certain materials.  So I suppose its partially implemented.
