What to do with a second Vampire?
« on: May 17, 2014, 01:20:22 am »

So, a migration wave recently came with TWO vampires (I didn't know it was possible). Anyway, I put one in a very nice office and set it to work, but the other one befuddles me. I don't want to wastefully kill it and I don't want to sacrifice it for a vampire fortress (I'm going for mountainhome).  What should I do?

How did we pass from inns with merry songs and happy music to temples of doom and medieval torture with so much easiness and eagerness??

put BOTH of them in the military. Give them armor, weapons, make them a 2 vamp squad, and tell them to train forever.

As long as you change the training orders to "2 dwarves" instead of 10, they will spar, ALOT. Legendaries in less than a year. They will be your shock troops.

It would be quite badass to have two dorfs sweep an entire siege.

Carve out a labyrinth and smooth and engrave the entire area, seal the second inside it, dump naked prisoners down inside it.

I always enjoy getting those immigrants that are like "I can make soap and potash and lye and cheese and-" then I cut them off with a "Hope you like bricks!" as I turn them into a mason.

I say you both make them naked and seal them into a crypt and make them fight each other for ever.

IIRC, vampires are not aggro'ed by zombies. So if you have a tower nearby and get zombie sieges, vampires may be invaluably useful to you as commando special forces for taking out necromancers themselves in surgical strikes, or even just like... chopping wood and stuff during a siege.

Dwarf fortress in 50 words: You start with seven alcoholic, manic-depressive dwarves. You build a fortress in the wilderness where EVERYTHING tries to kill you, including your own dwarves. Usually, your chief imports are immigrants, beer, and optimism. Your chief exports are misery, limestone violins, forest fires, elf tallow soap, and carved kitten bone.

You could put the vampire on permanent craftsdwarf duty, dropping in mats from the Z level above and dropping products to the Z level below.

Stick him over the water supply with spike trap, turn 2 vamps into 50.
then separate your non vamps, and feed them and migrants to their new vampire overlords.

If you want to make an insurance policy, you can seal both vampires away together permanently. If nothing can get to them, fort mode never ends. You can do this with just one, but two can keep each other company, reducing the chance of your nest egg going insane from boredom. If you need them to do something in an emergency, two vampires can work faster than one. Be sure to leave them enough slabs to memorialize every citizen of the fortress, as restless ghosts are the only things that can reach them.

If guy doesn't know what to do with 2, why would he want 50?

Vamp fortress would be awesome, if not for the alcohol dependent (bug?). With it, though, there are few things they can really do reliably well, which I interpreted as sort of the main reason why people struggle with uses for them, yes?

I'm sorry OP but DON'T DO THIS. What's cooler than vampires fighting ghosts? Answer: Nothing I'm sure there's an anime of that somewhere.
