Guys, Mel is chaotic good.
Good! That's almost as awesome as Chaotic Neutral! Now we just need to convince her that the necromancers are good whenever we have to make a choice.

She stole from people back in school.

Wait, what? Who were they? What were her reasons?

((I'm going with Neutral Good; you never made any mention of her stealing before now, AFAIK.))
Ser Donavin!
...What?
How long has it been like this? With the king, I mean.
o-Oh, he's been short tempered since the beginning of this unending war...
Why?
The magistrate has stopped crying by this point.
Well, one of the first traitors, one of the first to betray Etorya for the necromancers, was one of the king's advisers, a young man named Ichard. In order to weaken the kingdom, he killed the queen. The king, plunged into grief, is no longer the same man he was three years ago. He can be understood, though I must admit I don't feel very understanding right now...
Yeah, I suppose so.

Ask about Ichard and the necromancers. Specifically, when did they appear and what are they fighting for?

Wait, Mel could have been whatever the Thief class would be. D'awwww.

When did these necromancers appear? What do they want?
I know that the initial reports of necromancy only sprung up around seven years ago. Of course, there are always periodic reports of necromancy from outlying villages. No one believed the rise in reports, until the dwarven hall Zaragah fell. As for what they want, you'd have to ask them yourself. We can only speculate that they want some kind of power, or they just want to kill us all...
That's... unsettling... What about Ichard, what do you know of him?
Well, he was always ambitious. Always arrogant. He thought that he could solve everything if we gave him the power. We probably should have seen his betrayal coming. Undoubtedly, the necromancers offered him the power he so desired. However, despite his many flaws, he was a brilliant field commander. That was what he advised King Duso on. Otherwise, I didn't know him too well.

Ask Mel and Vin if they're okay. Also ask the magistrate about his life.
Might as well kill time, and it could be useful to, at the very least, make this guy like us a little. In a purely "Hey, you're a nice person" kind of way.

Action we can't actually do: (Vin) Use feminine-ness to trick the magistrate into revealing information.

Okay, thanks for the information.
You are welcome. I'm going to try and relax for now.
'Kay.
Hey Mel, you good?
Mel speaks from the cell next to Ser Donavin.
Yeah, I'm fine. As fine as one can be in dungeon. Thanks, Vin!
Vin speaks up from the cell next to yours.
Don't look at me! That king was a complete jerk! He was asking for it!
I'll take it that you're fine, Vin?
I've still got my knives. We'll be fine.
How'd you get knives through the guards? Didn't they take all our weapons?
I've got them in my boots, but those guards were too blind to notice.
Cool, we have some form of weaponry.

Try to push the door off it's hinges just to try.

Remember Mel's favorite song. It's probably pretty awesome.

You try casting push against the cell door, but it won't budge. As far as you recall, Mel has never mention absolute love for any particular song, game music or not. Otherwise, you just wait a bit and and try to rest. A little while later, you hear a kind of shifting noise in the stones separating you and Vin. Seconds pass, and a brick pops out of the wall followed by a small cloud of dust. Vin sticks his hand in and waves at you.
Hey, found a weak spot!
Awesome, now we can see each other.
Yeah, and if the king's words are anything to go by, the city isn't too secure.
Hopefully it is, it would be bad if a bunch of undead got in.
I guess so. What should we do? Look for more weak spots in the walls?

Yeah, let's check.
You tell Mel what you're going to do, and you all spend the next couple of hours trying to find loose bricks. The wall between you and Vin is very weak, and the rear wall of your cell has a few loose stones, but none lead anywhere but dirt and stone. Vin reports that his opposite wall is sturdy, and so is the back one. Mel hasn't said anything about the condition of her cell, but it must be fairly sturdy. You have to stop searching when you hear footsteps coming from the western hallway. A soldier appears, bearing a platter of bread and cups of water. He sets a cup in each cell, and tosses everyone two rolls of bread each. Once you've all finished, the guard takes the cups away and leaves.
