Never seen an FB like this

So it's a vampire FB?

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

Yep.

They're the least threatening type - it'll just suck some blood if it lands a bite attack.

but are its stats doubled?
also would undead ignore it?  (never had that kind of situation, assuming random undead would attack any FB they might encounter)

I'm rather disappointed that it doesn't have other vampire qualities :\

It will still be nasty thanks to its composition. I've never seen a vampiric beast before. That's pretty neat. I assume that like a normal vampire, its bite tends to drain the victim to death?

A well armored (and trained) dwarf should be able to avoid the bite.

It causes some blood loss, which isn't lethal for any big enough creature. Multiple bites may result in a faster death than with a different FB, but if a creature keeps being bitten it's usually doomed anyway.

I did some tests with this kind of creature before.

It takes one blood drain to kill a rabbit, while significantly more (3-4) to kill a giant grey langur. It actually seems to prefer draining blood to a certain extent.

So don't get into a wrestling match with it. Try catching it and experimenting with Goblins.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

Just to clarify, this is not a vampire FB - it's just a forgotten beast with a blood-sucking attack (which have been possible since version 0.31.01, released over 4 years ago).

Blood-sucking attacks themselves have been in the game since the very first version (released nearly 8 years ago) in the form of Nightwings, and version 0.27 (about 6.5 years old) added sea lampreys and giant leeches.

So no, this is not "new" by any stretch of the imagination.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

You wanted it to migrate into your fortress and become mayor?
