Dwarves don't want to use pots for storing food
« on: April 26, 2014, 01:34:55 pm »

What's wrong, guys? I have a lot of empty pots, but my dwarves don't want to use it for storing food. Why?

It seems unlikely but have you reserved too many pots for alcohol usage perhaps? Check your global stockpile settings.

Do you mean "Max barrel" option in the stockpile settings?

I am away from my computer at the moment but I will find it. From what I can recall you need to look in the stock pile settings in the menu you get when you press p, not the settings of an individual stockpile. I think it is "minimum barrels" or something. If you are unaware of it I suspect it may not be the problem unless you set it up long ago.

I just thought of something... There is a bug where if you have miners or hunters in militias they will leave food around under their ownership which won't get stored properly. Perhaps that is what you're running into so check any food you see laying around. You'll have to forgive me as I play with tilesets so I don't recognize all the ASCII characters in your screenshot

Edit: Fixed typos

Unless I'm mistaken, pots need to be glazed before you can use them.

Rock and porcelain pots do not. Not sure about clay pots.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Rock pots are fine.

How big are your food stacks? Maybe they don't fit into the pots.
