My FPS have increased from ~30 to ~40 in the new version.  Most pleasing!

Did anyone else get any substantial difference?

Forgive me for the totally noob question but how do you check the FPS?  

I am very hopeful that this new version will be better because I have been unable to play the last version (this is a work computer that is very wimpy).

INIT file, it'll have an option to display FPS.

My FPS for a large fort in the new version is greater than my FPS for a hermit fort in the old version as far as I can tell. Vast improvement    

Then again, in the new version I run with the bells and whistles off, where I had them on in the old one.

I'm playing on an old computer with temperature, etc turned on and my FPS went from 7 -> 17.  Wooot!

I've noticed that it lags a lot less in towns.

i have a q6600 at 3.2ghz i didn't notice any difference.

I think the biggest difference can be seen in maps with loads of water-living critters.  In the old version they pretty much halved my fps, but now DF runs almost as smooth as on critterless maps.

I've gotten significant FPS improvement across the board, on a variety of maps.

My FPS is DISMAL in this version, what once was around 80 is now around 30.

Actually, it's not the version that's laggy, it's just this region.

Can anyone download this region and tell me if it's as laggy for them as for me?

Seriously, what the hell, it's awful.
