Hehe, this will be the first release I was here for. I discovered DF right after DF2012 came out, when the wiki articles were still being moved to the new version.

I actually am hoping for a bit of delay, because I have a ton of school stuff coming up. During or right before summer would be great.

I think in 2012 the release happened very shortly after feature completion but this may not have been typical. My best guess is it shouldn't be too long now.
Yes, and we had vampires killing people in front of a crowd and blaming a duck for it. An earlier release is "bread for today; hunger for tomorrow", as we say in my country.

He could release it in two weeks with bugs everywhere and then do another 10 releases, one every few days, tweaking issues and bugs, as in DF2012; with most of those releases not being backwards compatible with each other's saves (which sucks). If we have to wait until summer, then so be it. Hey, at least it'll be soon. I was actually expecting this release for this month last year... ::)

Huh. So this is the second then.

I feel like I should remember that.

You probably registered the day before the final, stable release of DF2012 :V

Nope, February 13, 2012, the day before 0.34.01.

Once the feature list is done, if it is possible to play for 30 minutes to an hour without crashes, it should be released. There were a lot of rewrites from the ground up in DF2010.

I’m fine with crashes on that time schedule. If people think the game is too buggy to play they can stick with DF2012, just as some people stuck with 40d when DF2010 came out.

Given current events, I've altered my profile pic and I'm sorry it took so long to fix. If you find the old one on any of my accounts elsewhere on the internet, let me know by message (along with the specific site) and I'll fix. Can't link the revised avatar for some reason.

I imagine Toady has some complex internal set of rules as to what constitutes a new version being debugged enough to be released for play testing by the community but I have no idea what they might be. I guess I'm going to have to learn to read the ascii properly unless the modders are supper fast with updating tile sets. I imagine basic graphics mods can't have too much in them that would be tripped up by a new release other than not having tiles for the new trees and such.

How long does it "normally" take for the basic graphics packs to be updated after a release?

Toady's 2010 remarks on why he prefers to debug these big releases:
The game is roughly as dirty now as it was for the first releases in 2006, which most of the current players weren't around for.  I don't feel like I can release it like that, so I'm making it a little more clean to avoid some shock and misery (hopefully...  who knows what thousands of people will dig up...).  I know that's frustrating for people that don't care as much about crashes and all that, and it's also frustrating for people that do care about crashes just because it has been a while, but I still think it would be better to release something that kind of works this time around, where features that already exist aren't crippled in many cases and new features are pretty okay.  A lot of things work now, but many things are still broken and I'm still getting at least a crash report a day.

Yeah, don't doubt my age here. It's been two long years since I first logged on.

Wait, Valentine's Day? Huh. What the next holiday? Easter, but I don't think there's time for that.

Cinco de Mayo.

That was my guess in the release date betting thread.   :D

It actually still seems plausible.
