Kyle continues trying to wrestle Sir Joseph into his cannon, (wrestling check STR ==> Kyle 5+1 vs Sir Joseph 10+1) but the High Priest of Panxixte easily breaks his grip. Stepping back, Sir Joseph shouts a spell, and he disappears in a flash of light and a whirlwind of smoke, with a sharp crackle and a loud but muffled sounding thump. When the smoke clears, the man is nowhere to be seen, as is two of his EP.

While they are fighting, the kobold moves to stand beside Subject-173. It almost seems like he's trying to guard you... how nice of him.

Meanwhile, the goblin grumbles about the stupidity of his PCs.

It is Kyle's turn again.

Kyle looks around and then shrugs.
"Well then, now that he's gone I suppose there's something we should be doing?"

Subject walk over to the goblin "I sense they will be at this for a while. How about we get life stories out the way while we wait?"

While Kyle is looking around, Sir Joseph sneaks behind him, and when the pirate starts talking, he only gets to the word "someth-" before he is cut off by a firebolt to the back of the head. It deals (3 +1 (staff) +1 (sneak attack)) damage, killing him instantly. As the lifeless body disappears, Sir Joseph fades back into view. The pirate flag, caught by a sudden wind, floats upwards into the darkness, slowly disappearing, like Kyle's fleeing spirit.

After a split second of shock, the merchant recovers, pulls out his gun and shoots Sir Joseph in the stomach. ((?) vs 2) The Slayer of the Golden Demon loses feeling in everything from his neck down. He is paralyzed!
Character Sheet Upgrade: Status Condition Section!

The merchant walks up to him and starts yelling.

Despite his threat, he doesn't harm you, at least not yet. How do you respond?

Meanwhile, the kobold wanders over to the crashed ship to see what's inside. He disappears from view. Subject-173 walks over to the goblin and strikes up conversation, seemingly oblivious to the tragedy a few steps away.

What do you do now?

Don't mess.

Good merchant, this pirate was a foul bandit who accosted me! Such men have no honor and deserve no fair fight!

The merchant responds to Sir Joseph's statement by saying,

After thinking for a moment, the merchant shoots him again with the stun weapon ((?) vs 4), successfully ensuring that he doesn't regain motor control too soon, and then goes and rummages around in the back of the cart for a few seconds, before returning with a scroll. He speaks an incantation in a powerful voice, and a fiery rune blazes into existence over Sir Joseph's head.

The merchant finishes the spell by stating the precise conditions of the Mark.

By the time he is done speaking, the paralysis has worn off.

Meanwhile, some very disjointed conversation takes place. The goblin goes into exposition NPC mode and Subject-173 continues her earlier thread of conversation by starting to tell her life story while the kobold, having returned from exploring the ship, offers her the loot that he found inside of it.

Subject take the shiny "Thank you...come to think of it, I haven't even asked your name, servant. That kind of bad."

The kobold replies to Subject-173 by saying,

Subject-173 ((presumably)) puts the 'shinies' into Kyle's empty loot bag.

Sir Joseph, attempting to get some magic back, remembers that there are two ways of regaining EP: using potions and resting. Fortunately for Sir Joseph, although the former does not seem forthcoming, the merchant seems to be in favour of the latter.

It was pointed out in the community thread that the resting numbers were a bit off, so I changed them.

After some more discussion, the "fix" was shown to still be flawed:
So.

10 3-minute rests would be 15 EP.
A 30-minute rest would be 5.5+0.5(mEP) EP.
Unless your mEP is greater than 9, it's probably better to take a bunch of short rests. Still a bit off.

Have you considered a flat rate? Something like 10% of your EP each 5 minutes of resting?
So there are now two alternate solutions to fix my "fix":
...I should really think these things through a bit better before I post them. A flat rate sounds like a good idea, I think 10% every 5 minutes would be reasonable. I was also thinking 1d(1/2mEP) per 15 minutes might work, but that has an additional advantage and disadvantage: it's more random, which is good, but also more complex, which is bad...

I'll put it to a vote: who is in favour of 10% every 5 minutes, and who would prefer 1d(1/2mEP) every 15? The former is slightly faster, but in a game like this one, with abstracted time, the 10 minutes shouldn't be a big difference.

Thanks for pointing this out, GWG.

And I thought that you guys would also appreciate being included in this vote.
