So I was running a fairly mundane fort in between modding experiments on another save, when my investigation of the caverns eventually uncovered a forgotten beast and some bat people. Fairly standard stuff, so I was expecting them to get stomped. And they did, mostly.

Except one bat woman spearmaster (spearmistress?) that gave our resident lizardmonster a year-long thrashing before eventually biting the dust (not biting the deadly dust, fortunately).

I was kinda rooting for her, it would've been awesome to see her get a name for handing Sosmil its ass. For the longest time she was managing with nothing but a broken nose. Seems like the creature never resorted to biting, so no sign of what that venom even does.

Eventually Sosmil went back to clobbering the last couple batmen around, and it seems its bite is better at decapitating than it is at envenoming. However, seems one bat spearman might step up to the plate and finish what his comrade started.

EDIT: I just had to say it. Squad broken, game over maaaan. For the batpeople, not me. I might see about capturing Sosmil and feeding it the goblin siege I just cage-trapped.

In the meantime, Operation: Six Stooges is underway. Two rooms, a drawbridge to divide them, an artifact weapon rack, 5 goblins in lever-linked cages...all we need is our sixth stooge.

Going to use the old "ramp under a bridge" trick to open the way for our unwitting guest, then close a drawbridge behind him once he's occupied with admiring the furniture.

Well, just got home, and since my fort's save is on my laptop...I do need to do some things involving moing things between my home PC and laptop, so I might post progress on avenging those batpeople later tonight or tomorrow. o3o

Wings carried her through the darkness, aching with each frantic flap, the caverns alive with cries that only her kind heard, sensing every intimate detail of the stone that caught her words, guiding the bat woman to what she hoped was safety. She was bleeding, battered from the battle that she fled from, cursing her own cowardice.

But she could hear the others of her tribe, their cries drowned out by the roars and hisses of that...thing. No wound could harm such a thing, winged perversion of a reptilian form she had little understanding of. But her kind tried, marking its body hundreds of times in a losing battle.

It came not long after the strange omens. The roof of the cave would falter and crumble away in places here and there, only to be restored by some unseen creature. But where did such a thing come from? It seemed to poke and prod from above, brief intrusions from beyond the only world her kind knew. It awakened and attracted this monster. And these strange things from above were watching her kind fight for their lives. She knew this from other, smaller holes that appeared here and there amongst the cavern walls, letting in faint light from whatever realm rested above the caves.

When the beast came forth, it set after her kind like a blood-crazed predator, picking apart any that stood before it. It endured spearmarks that would kill any creature a dozen times over, and dart poison seemed even less effective against it. She'd long since cast each dart she had into its hide, and she knew clubbing it with her blowgun would merely be an insult to it.

For a while her kin had the upper hand. The tribe matriarch lured the monster away from the decimated campsite, seeming to keep it engaged in battle for many days. Or cycles of the underground lake's tide, as she would know it. With only a spear, shield, and a body honed by decades on the hunt, she single-handedly wounded it until the beast could only crawl, crippling the profane avian limbs that creature had for wings.

But the spearmistress fell as so many did before her, and what was left of her tribe was still no match for the mutilated, limping reptilian. Another of the spearhunters joined with her and two other blowgunners, all left with no choice but to use their weapons as crude clubs. But she ran, barely escaping with her life while her comrades fell, one by one.

The bloodloss was getting to her. It could no longer fly, but she would find no respite from the creature. She had to land, and face the thing that now hunted to only prey left to kill. As the creature caught up to her, the last thought to cross her mind was whether the beast might've fallen if the last of the group had one more standing with them, fighting to the death instead of abandoning her own family.

This basically sums up what happened with the bat people. FB pops in, wrecks a few faces, spearmaster somehow gets it away to duel with it for nearly an in-game year. Then it returns and the survivors put up a much briefer resistance (though the spearman lasted maybe a month or two). One blowgunner buggered off after taking a few hits during the ensuing shitstorm, and gets be the last victim.

Well, back out and on the laptop, so...my little plot went off without a hitch, though I had to spice up the bait chamber with a puppy to further entice Sosmil.

In the blue corner, we have our reigning (and crippled) champion of the Batman-punting Olympics, Sosmil! In the red corner we have 5 eager young contenders eager for the gold medal in our brand-new Giant Lizardmonster Clobbering event! Hailing all the way from Kustrodamsto (The Ignited Deceiver) we have a quintet of swordsmen, still adorned in the usual mishmash of goblinite equipment.

Place your bets. Personally I'm thinking real armor and metal weapons will do a lot better against this thing. Except that one shmuck with a silver zweihander.

Soon enough we have our first injury, while all 5 of the goblins are giving Big Ugly nothing but more ineffectual torn tissues.



Sosmil REALLY doesn't like Ngokang's legs.



Poor bastard finally dies after the lizardmonster literally bites his head off. That remains a 3-for-3 track record of his bite attack killing instantly. At this rate we'll never find out with his venom does, unless "sensitivity to losing limbs" is a symptom.

Battery running low, more edits when I get set up somewhere with an outlet. Piece of shit laptop battery.

Second casualty, Bosa Strabomato, fell shortly after I resumed the game. By the way, this upped the instant-death-bite score to 4-of-4, seems like Sosmil only prefers to bite unconscious targets. Usbu (ūsbu, but fuck diacritcal marks), Em (the schmuck with the silver sword), and another Bosa are still unharmed.



Sosmil keeps suffering, at the worst, brief trouble breathing from the occasional stab to the lungs. Lots of apparently harmless tissue tearing, and fractures that don't seem effective either. Broken legs and wings do seem to keep it prone and unable to fly, but it can still scratch and occasionally lock joints with its wings.

But then, quite suddenly...



It just rather suddenly croaked with no sign of what killed it. Nothing but more lung stabs...guess even nigh-immortal lizard monsters can suffocate, even it can't die from constant bloodloss or be knocked out cold.

Well, there ends the saga of Sosmil Nokgoligath, formally just Sosmil (killing one of those goblins titled it, apparently.) It died as it lived. Getting gang-raped by pissed-off humanoids wielding pointy things.

I've yet to find that out, sadly. Now the big bugger's dead, so...

Problem was it only seemed to resorted to biting against unconscious targets, except one it bit in the hand. Every time it wouldn't just sever limbs, and the target tended to die instantly as a result of getting their head bit off.

Even the one it bit in the hand apparently bled to death right afterward.
