Need help about stockpile problem.
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:55:32 pm »

I can't find the some item types in the stockpile settings. And others are not stocked as I thought.

soul, it stays in the butcher's shop and withers. I thought it's some sort of plant but didn't find it in food stockpile settings.
blood in barrel. Food stockpile for "blood" doesn't work.
science discoveries. I didn't find it in any stockpile settings.
feather wood blocks. I can't find a specific setting for feather's, only wood blocks.
sawdust. I know I can clean them. But I want to store them until it really hurts FPS or I need plywood.
slag. Just don't want to waste anything.

Soul: I've seen withered souls be stored in refuse before I think.  But souls will always disappear quickly unless you're playing warlock and can keep them in phylacteries.  So use them as your produce them.

Sawdust:  I've seen it hauled to my finished goods stockpile.

Feather wood blocks: I'm not sure what you mean a setting for feathers.  Feather wood blocks should just be stored with blocks and material wood.  Is there a reason you're turning feather wood into blocks instead of normal wood?  The feather wood logs are useful in light magic and quite valuable to sell at the trading workshops.  They are light but I can't see them being that much faster to haul then a normal wood bin made from wood blocks.

Are you making specific stockpiles for each item or something?  I'm not sure about science discoveries or the rest but I'm pretty sure they should be stored with just general stockpile settings.  That being said I've never really bothered trying to get blood in barrels stockpiled, they tend to just sit there.  And trade licenses give me trouble as well.

I'm in a good forest so, I make all furniture in feather wood. I also burn feather wood blocks for coke.
Yes I don't actually need a feather wood stockpile. Just don't cut any normal wood, that's fine.

And where is ink?

I can verify that science discoveries, library or any other kind of supplies cannot be separately stored, even if you enable the stockpile to only store "(science discovery)", "(library supplies)" etc. The stockpile will simply ignore them. You can remedy that somewhat by having stockpiles with everything enabled to only take from the library/researcher you want to take from. However, if one of your furniture/bars/finished goods stockpiles has bins dwarfs will, for some reason, always take your science discoveries and books from ANYWHERE and store them in a bin which they will always move around to store more stuff and so you won't be able to do any research...

Cheers

Ink can be made in the crafts dwarves workshop, with blood, graphite, Ash or dye.  Need a jug as well. You really should read the manual.

I any mod if you can't figure out how to stockpile something it is a "rock" tool.
Just make a tool stock pile and enable the correct kind of rock.

For example science discoveries are tools made from a rock material (forgot it's name) so just create a finished goods stockpile and enable a rock materials and they should be stored there.

Stuff in barrels is a little harder, some things are not stockpileable at all.

Souls and slag are intentionally not stockpileable.

After all, coke is for furnaces, not for snorting.
You're not true dwarven royalty unless you own the complete 'Signature Collection' baby-bone bedroom set from NOKEAS

I know how to make it. My intention was to ask to what stockpile should it go.

Very helpful. the discoveries are made of INORGANIC:PAPER_DISCOVERY. So it should be a material named "(researcher supplies) rare" listed in the stone section. I will try it now.

For feather wood I want a 'furniture wood stockpile' for feather wood only, and a 'firewood stockpile' for feather wood and normal wood.
I've solved this. I build two sawmills and setup some stockpile links.
