In a Theocratic Monarchy lives a young intellectual woman with her adopted son. Due to her focus on intellectual pursuits, like the studying of the all sorts of subjects from mathematics and science to ancient lore, she finds little time to socialize with other people. One day, upon royal orders, she is sent into the outskirts of the kingdom in order to supervise an annual ritual. While she initially dismisses the countryside, she gradually grows to enjoy it, and the eccentric rural villagers are all to happy to befriend her. However, right before the ritual can commence, an exiled royal family member manages to sneak back into the kingdom, and launches a sudden coup d'etat. The protagonist, fiercely loyal to the original royalty, raises a force of the most skilled and capable peasants as a loyalist militia to take back the throne.
They face many harsh trials along the way, where her impromptu villager force is able to utilize their various abilities and attributes to fend off the arsenal of the self-proclaimed new ruler. After clearing out the enemy forces and provisions, Protagonist and co. confront the false ruler head-on in one climatic battle, where they are able to overpower the latter in one final blitzkrieg attack. The old monarch is restored, and actually manages to forgive their kin; in fact, instead of punishment, the usurper is welcomed back into the royal family.
Upon the completion of her duties, the protagonist decides to live out her life in the countryside instead of returning to the heart of the kingdom, as she grows fond of the new life she finds. She moves into a village, where she and her son manage to balance intellectual pursuits with community participation. She keeps in touch with the throne though, periodically writing the monarch letters on her sociological discoveries. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
