NetHack Slash'EM inhumane fury edition (how2tileset?)
« on: February 25, 2014, 01:43:22 am »

I enjoyed Slash'EM. I downloaded it. I tried playing. THERE'S A DAMNABLE FLICKERING GLITCH THAT EVERYONE HAS BUT THERE'S NO SOLUTION, BECAUSE EVERY THREA IS A DEAD END. I try putting in abigaba tileset. NOTHING I TRY WORKS. Set save me before I kick down a shop door in my absolute fury. You see, the tileset should possibly fix the flicker, but the tileset won't WORK. Also, default tiles are horrible and I can't deal with raw, unstylized ascii.

I just had to register to reply to this ... unfortunately the last time I've played Slash'em, it was under Windows XP and with ASCII, so I cannot really help the OP. Are you using the windows version? I dimly remember switching to a different version (Allegro?) might help. Also, Slash'em has been released for Android and iPhone

Slash'em is a modified version of the classic roguelike Nethack, with a revamped magic spell system and tons of additional characters, levels and items. It's my favorite version of Nethack and I actually managed to ascend in it once or twice.
It is considered to be more difficult, unbalanced and silly (you can find assault rifles and bullets, both of which can be enchanted using scrolls of weapon enchant). As for reviews, if you are new to the genre, read reviews of Nethack, basic Slash'em gameplay is identical. Just keep in mind the rather apt saying
"NetHack doesn't care whether you live or not. Slash'EM wants you dead."  ;D

Hmm ... I really should try it again ...
