Runes Dissapeared?

So i enchanted a Scimitar with almost every offensive rune available, and gave it to my Captain of the guard (I made sure its the same scimitar)
The ploblem is, apparently the runes arent there anymore? The only thing it contains now is a blood smear.

Is that normal?

The Scimitar has killed 18 creatures in total since its creation, and probably harmed more.

I've had this same problem in orc mode, but never in dorf mode. Some parts of the manual seem to imply that only orichalcum weapons and armor can be runed in orc mode

Im playing with Dwarves. Should i stop runing weapons with Orichalcum then?

No clue what the issue is if you're in dorf mode, Meph has said that runes dont wash off whenever I've asked this before.

they dont. At least they shouldnt. I know dfhack clean, water and blood doesnt wash them off...
