Tales of War and Conflict (Legends Mode Wars Thread!)
« on: February 20, 2014, 11:24:54 pm »

After searching around the forum proper for a brief moment and not coming up on anything, I decided that now would be the time to make a forum depicting particularly interesting battles taking place in the world generation thread, and possibly player controlled wars once those become a thing. What inspired me to make this thread was this here event, depicting an army of sunflower faeries (a custom race I'm working on) and elves laying siege to a goblin fortress that outnumbed them over two to one.

Why is this so interesting, you might ask? Well, for one thing, faeries have the same size and strength as kobolds, and to complicate matters further, their weapons (limited to hatchets, daggers, spears, and short-swords) are wooden like the elves', nor do they have any armour industry beyond the creation of wooden shields, making them horrendously unsuitable for charging in massed formations as depicted here. Secondly, they managed to annihilate the entire keep, even after losing the vast majority of their forces in the heat of battle. Thirdly, because of the details, which I shall give in brief bellow:

The Hoof of Spiraling:

Here we have Bese Mamyclearings, a young, enterprising general lead the allied forces of the Shows of Dress and Woodland elves against the Scorpion of Miles, a vile goblin force that apparently irked them through displaying war trophies (apparently a pet peeve of the Dresses, who previously went to war with the Scorpions three hundred years earlier for the same reason*). Tensions were high, and the Dress Army had no intention of fleeing from their predicament, bravely leaving a charge into the Blotplague mire, the swamplands containing the major goblin fortress Demonwarning, and a heavily defended one to boot.

On the defensive, the Scorpion army had massed human soldiers, whether they be slave, mercenary, or souls as wicked as they, it is never detailed, but they nevertheless made up a major part of the force, followed by the trolls as usual.

The majority of the battle details various goblins and humans getting their limbs slowly hacked apart and eyes gouged out by the unrelenting leprechauns and fae, detailing events such as one enterprising leprechaun named Kimi managing to kill over a dozen assorted humans and goblins and earning the fabled rank of Chaun, a couple of cases of faries killing other fairies (traitors? friendly fire? you decide!), and finally elves and trolls charging in from the respective sides in order to wage full-scale war, supported by grizzly bears and cave dragons respectively, which is when things started to get bloody for the fae, their forces dropping rapidly from the strong assailants.

After multiple attempts of breaching the opposing line, we come to the clash between Ngokang Grieveddooms and Rifa Hailedfriends, the general of the goblin force deciding to join combat himself in a fit of rage. Ngokand had the initiative, hoping to use his superior strength and equipment to kill his seemingly inconsequential target with ease, but Rifa would have none of that, stabbing the fiend's right cheek in a counter attack before gutting his head completely.

This was the blow needed to shatter the goblin command, and without a leader, the goblins and their remaining allies found themselves ultimately slaughtered to the man. On the following day, much needed reinforcements arrived on the allied side, while a force of trolls and humans attempted to counterattack in a vein attempt to recapture the lost land. Despite fielding roughly even numbers, the Scorpion army again lost losing an additional 2000 forces, unable to stop the destruction of the dark fort, as well as destroying virtually all of the Scorpion army. With their army shattered and a major city lost, the Scorpions surrendered, a major victory for the forces of the woods. The resulting political turmoil led to Lani Doorcotton, a human, to become the new leader of the battered goblin civilization, pledging to never again display trophies of war, nor having the opportunity to obtain any.

*Over the five and a half centuries of the Queendom's existence, ten wars were waged for the reason of trophies. This also makes the Dresses the most militant fairy faction in this world. Yeesh.

----

And that's the gist of the The Hoof of Spiraling, the great conflict between the forces of nature and darkness. Now, it's your turn!

It's a real shame I can't find right now my research about one war between dwarves and goblins. Anyway, it was really something one could make a film about.

Goblins attacked over the mountains. They had trolls, blizzard men and cave dragons along with them. Dwarves mustered their troops and the first battle was fought on the slopes of the mountain. Dwarves had mainly elk bird cavalry, pikedwarves led by the general and crossbowdwarves led by the king and the queen.

They were all slaughtered. Cave dragons and trolls killed them. A blizzard man killed the dwarf king. The queen was also killed. The general, widow of the late king of dwarves, dueled with goblin master, but eventually he was killed by the goblins. The army of green-skins broke dwarven army and attacked to the mountainhomes.

The situation was pretty desperate for the dwarves. However a young dwarf captain from the northern frontier gathered quickly as many dwarves as he could find, and managed to repel the goblin assault. Goblin master was killed. It is a bit suspicious, that one goblin-lady, (in my canon she was a leader of cave dragon forces) didn't really do anything in the battle, and retreated quickly. Later she headed for goblin capital and became the master. Dwarves achieved the victory. Goblins sued for peace. I believe there erupted a civil war between the generals of goblin army. Three generals eventually became masters of that civilization through murders and assasinations.
