How to retire/escape?
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:35:17 pm »

First proper attempt at adventure mode!

'So the werebeast is not home? Fine, ill sleep in his lair with a fire in the entrance and that should keep him at bay until I wake'
I wake and the fire isn't gone, I sleep again and it still isn't gone. Apparently campfires are eternal.
So my question is how do I retire my adventurer to escape as I heard you can? Or alternatively any advice on how to escape some other way?
Thank you in advance!

No escape without DfHack use, sorry.

If you use Dfhack, you can either use tiletypes to transform a wall in a floor, or give yourself a pick and use advfort to make a exit.

In a hole in the ground there lived a dwarf. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a dwarf fortress, and that means magma.

Question about advfort

How do you select where to dig?

I picked downwardstairway, and pushed "." and he just kept running in some random direction.
I have the pick equipped too.

EDIT+

Thanks to Koter, he informed me that you need atleast 1 mining exp skill to dig, so attacking something with a pick should do it.
Also if you are hungry/drowsy/thirsty you may need to eatdrink before digging, because your dwarf thinks it needs to do these things before it completes the dig task (via fortress logic).

EDIT+

Also, i lit a set of campfires around me, in recent version.
And it took about 10 minutes of real time, pushing "." fast to get them to burn out.
(one 1 whole night worth of in-game time)

Maybe sleeping doesn't count for time on campfires, but if you don't have food water, this might be a bad option as well.
