Using steam engines?
« on: February 10, 2014, 03:50:57 pm »

I searched the forums for some answers, but search doesn't work that well, so I'll just ask. I'm using masterwork public beta, version 2.0.0.8 according to the about menu.  I'd built a couple steam engines to power some millstones. I connected gears to them after they were built. Then I ran the reaction to start them. The gears flash, but no power is being transmitted. What am I doing wrong here?

Never mind. I went into "try anything to fix it" mode, and fixed it but I don't know how. I copied the steam-engine.plug.dll file from github (which was the same size and probably the same file), added "enable steam-engine" (which does nothing, it is evidently controlled by another plugin.) and rebuilt everything, which is probably the thing. I was SURE I had built the engine before the connectors, and even deconstructed the connectors and rebuilt them, but nothing happened. Deconstructed everything, saved, and reconstructed, ensuring proper build order, and now it seems to work.

I love steam engines! I love that they wear out and fall apart and explode! No, really. Early steam engines did that all the time. It's realistic, and not a bad price to pay for having an FPS-friendly and convenient power source.
