Dwarfs not bringing wounded to hospital
« on: February 04, 2014, 05:33:06 pm »

So, my dwarfs seem to bring everything in, just as I taught them...except the freaking wounded!!! I have a guy with some minor injuries that could be easily healed but not even the dudes that have only "recover wounded" enabled will get him out. And that guy, he only has the ribs hurt, he should be able to move but he doesn't... Another wounded dwarf who lost a leg and had the other cut open single-handedly dragged himself to the barracks and started organizing drills and when he doesn't have any watchers he keeps doing personal drills, ON THAT HACKED APART LEFTOVER FOOT! So why isn't the minor wounded guy getting up or getting moved to the hospital?
Any ideas on how to fix this? They used to haul the wounded to the hospital, now it seems dorfs take up tasks that aren't even enabled....just to avoid doing the ones I tell them to..and that guy is starving and dehydrating.... As a fact I have not fiddled with any orders.

Cheers

I assume you have the zones done properly, with a hospital zone made.
Try re-injuring them by dropping rocks on them, or you could try the DFhack workNow command, that makes dwarves perform jobs more actively

If your animals aren't expendable, you could always station a dwarf or two out there?

Use DFhack to dump a bunch of liquids on him. a 7/7 thing of water will move him and prompt someone to realize he's injured and rescue him/ bring him food or water. It's an odd bug that happens from time to time that causes that.

Do you use DFHack? Try this script:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Don't use it if any of your dwarves are fighting or about to fight. The very first use may catch dwarves who were functioning perfectly well before you knocked them out for the day.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

It's a known problem. It's one of those weird things for jobs that involve another dwarf (the medical jobs).

Just wanted to throw in this also happened to me, (knew it was problem but had never witnessed first hand) I have 5 nurses with no labor except recover and feed wounded and they all idled about the entire time.
the reason I posted was because I noticed as dwarves were stitched up and sent out of the hospital (5 were wounded, the most serious was a lost hand, the rest were minor cuts and scraps, but still would not move) as soon as one was done with all treatment a random dwarf, not one of the nurses, would go and collect the next one, I thought it was odd chiefly because my nurses were picked specifically for the "enjoys helping others" trait, two of them have "greatly etc" but also because rather than outright stopping treatment it only slowed it down greatly, (and yes, the lost hand was the last treated, I'm surprised he made it, he was starving and dehydrated and soaked in goblin/toad blood for several days)
It seemed on odd variation of this rather touchy area I'd not heard of before, I'd figured I'd bring it up, obviously it's a pretty insignificant problem for me, and only wanted to bring it up for the sake of having as much data available on the subject as possible.

Hmm, how do I dump water using DFHack? I don't really know much about using it. I use it for basic things like workflow, butchering and such. Also how do I add all that code?

Thank you I had eventually read on the DFHack wiki how to do it. It didn't work, but it made the wounded dude go on break. Then I tried a bunch of things including designating a food stockpile under the dude and a hospital area. Eventually he either dragged himself or some1 carried him, so he got to the hospital, but he died because nobody wanted to give him water, lol. That's destiny of the dwarfs for you :D

EDIT: Ok, confirmed, designating a small hospital zone around the wounded dwarf attracts the attention of anyone with the "recover wounded" labor assigned and they get the dude really quickly. You can then delete the hospital zone.

Weird. but kind of makes sense that you could designate wounded pickup just like with items.

I had a legendary miner with a broken 5th right toe die because all the water randomly froze one winter - though I'm positive it hadn't the year prior
so don't believe a word of it when someone says they have severely injured dwarves toughing it out...liars
don't get me wrong - a broken toe would hurt like hell, but you won't get out of bed when you're on the verge of death because of it? the HELL??????
