I dunno, "Big guy impaling you from the sky" seems more intimidating than "Trying to skate around on a shield, failing miserably because of friction and because shields aren't meant to be used that way".

No, they won't. They'll be a little confused, perhaps, but mostly amused.
They were only afraid when Legolas did it because he was backing up the insane, stupid moves with deadly accuracy. Also because he was in a movie where that worked.
