Best metal armor I can find, loaded up with hoods and long skirts. A silver warhammer in one hand and an iron longsword in the other (one's for slicing limbs, the other's for cracking skulls). A handful of bolts and knives for throwing. A shield and a buckler just for fun.

Armor training is key if you want metal gear. Turn of dodging, put up the shield and weapon, lie down next to a crab, and mash that period key like there's no tomorrow. I think I'm up to around 1300 speed fully equipped.

Iron pick with 3 iron shields and 1 masterwork shield. Various pieces of bronze or iron armor. Oh, and a bunch of human bone and dwarf hair necklaces and trinkets I looted from minotaurs and vampires.

I start up as a human peasent,go to a 2-5 human castles, collect full steel set (broke something in the raws and humans got human sized steel not complaining) full set would be about breast plate chain mail guanlets high boots and helm.WARNING RAMBLING ON ABOUT SKILL TRAINING IMIENENT!.

Speed should be 500-600,train sneak halfway to legendary, sneak up on unsuspecting weasel/rabbit/raven/small animal, set dodge to stand still, drop shield and sword (always use a sword axe too heavy) go prone, press . about 400-700 times (easier then it sounds) I am now at 1300 speed (300 came from trained agilty) at legendary armor skill, some would call this a shameful tactic, however given how easy it is for a bowman/lasher to cripple you with 0 effort I consider it a viable tactic.

I take whatever I can get, mostly. I grab the best armor I can get, but I also take leather clothing at every chance, it actually adds a slight but noticeable layer of protection against blunt damage. Same with weapons, although the battle axe has always given me the best results.
The mountains of coins I tend to accumulate are the only ranged weapon I need, they stack, are fairly light, and are much faster than a crossbow.

1 whip, 1 pick, random armor, and as many shields as I can pick up. I might be slower, but that doesn't matter if I can block every single shot.

Generally, I wear several hoods until I get hold of a helmet. Then I wear another hood, to be safe.

I wear whatever armor I can get my mitts on, but usually I start with dodger rather than armor user so the armor speed decrease piles up after a while, leading to tough decisions once it starts dropping under 1000.

Iron swords are good for humans, but unless I'm doing lasher, I tend to start with dwarven warriors for martial trances, so I usually end up with a starting steel axe or sword.

Of course, one time, the idiot "local blacksmith" had me end up with a starting silver axe. What kind of idiot uses a soft, semiprecious metal for an axe? At least it wasn't a hypocritical elven wooden axe, that's for sure. Seriously, who tries to make axes, which chop trees, with wood, when you hate killing trees in the first place?

Apologies if I offended you in some manner with my ever-so-slightly off topic there.
