Change the hard coded immigrants
« on: January 03, 2014, 07:07:04 pm »

I was wondering, is it possible to completely turn off immigrants? I know of the civ cap in the init file, but can you change some file to turn off the first two migrant waves?

Not that I know of. They come even if dwarves are extinct. The pop cap only takes effect after talking with the trade liason anyway.

I think there's some dfhackery that updates popcap. Getting rid of [ACTIVE_SEASON:AUTUMN] may or may not help as well.

Has anyone ever tried changing Dwarves to [ACTIVE_SEASON:SPRING] in order to make the Dwarven caravan show up almost immediately?  It seems as if that should head off the first two waves of migration.

When you first start a fortress, the Mountainhomes don't know what your population is (until a caravan shows up) and assumes it is zero, so if you set your population cap to zero (which actually sets it to 7, since the config code prevents it from being smaller), you will get at least 7 migrants as a result. The DFHack script "fix/population-cap" immediately notifies them of your population so they'll respect the population cap right away.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
