Modding question
« on: December 27, 2013, 09:52:00 pm »

I've been messing around with the various XMLs, but how would you go about editing the non-safari documents, (CPCs, CMVs, etc etc.) because those just appear as weird characters when I open 'em with an XML editor.

Thank you in advance.

There generally are instructions in how to edit the associated files available as comments in the C++ source code. What files specifically are you trying to mod?

Nothing in particular, just wanted to see what there was to mod.

You need to download the source. Then you can edit them using Notepad or Notepad++.

CPC and CMVs are, as far as I can tell, a unique binary format created by Toady. I'm unaware of anything that can open them other than LCS itself, but I haven't asked him about them either, so there might be more to the story than I know. There are a couple files on SVN in which I wrote up a brief documentation from my efforts to reverse engineer the format.
