Hey dwarfs! I'm taking an intro to artificial intelligence course at my university and I'm going to give a presentation on Dwarf Fortress's emergent gameplay due to it's AI and simulation complexity. I have my own fortress I'm going to show off and am going to talk about a few fun Dwarf stories and how the underlying systems provided the experience.

In addition, I would love to show off some of your forts as well! If anyone has any save-game files that have some awesome examples of how dwarfy the game can be, post up a link or pm me and i'll give you an email addy to send it to. I'm excited to get in front of class and talk about the game and share some of your stories!

(I cross posted this from a Reddit post i made earlier today before I thought to come here. Please excuse my lazy copy-paste  :P)

It's probably best to hit up youtubers who are commenting as things happen. Emergent gameplay has a time element better suited to either detailed running journals or video.

I'll keep an eye out both in my game and on youtube, but it is sometimes hard to see such things going on in the heat of the moment. Be sure to post (or at least describe) the ones that you do find!

My suggestion for the presentation would be to include some textual examples in addition to actual gameplay samples. Maybe you could browse some of the more popular stories, check some of the funnier devlog entries, or even take a gander in the Legends mode thread that's floating around here. I'm sure you'll find some gold to entertain with from those even if the only examples you can see in gameplay are less interesting.

Also - if you could give some examples of things that you'd like to see then perhaps we could find some savegames or videos for you. A loyalty cascade is something I'd consider as an example, or perhaps a classic tantrum spiral, but it'd be helpful to know what examples you want in your presentation.

Jef Major had one of the really good suicide stories (on youtube) some years back. Baby used as meat shield, survives as both parents die, sees it happen because baby is right there in the battle, then goes to great lengths to commit suicide. It was sad, funny, and truly gloriously DF at it's core. Simple things came together to produce an end result.

Try checking the what happened in your fort thread as well as the community stories board.

thanks for the responses guys :)
Between here and Reddit I've gotten a few savegames and mostly a lot of good resources to find stories/games I wouldn't have found otherwise. I'm compiling all of my stuff today. From what Shinotsa mentioned, I think i'm going to try and find a good tantrum spiral game/vid and pick apart how that goes. There's a lot of things I could show off in the game that are pure Dwarfy, but I'm really looking for examples of the A.I. in action, and the classic tantrum spiral is a great, entertaining example of that. I probably should have been more specific about the A.I. in my original post, but regardless I ended up with a ton of resources. Thanks everyone!

Glad you found gold! Best of luck on your project, and I hope you recruit some good new Dwarf Fortress players. Then again, there was really no doubt that you'd find something great. You know the old Dwarven saying, If you dig deep enough you'll always find what you want.
