Strangely true. People who lack the capability to imagine the world keep whining about the graphics, whereas those who can, are happy to stay with "ASCII" or character based graphics because it's much easier on the eyes and "faster to see things". I have met a lot of people with some kind of mental disability to visualize abstract things to themselves. These same people often can't mentally process cartoons and prefer to watch only live-action entertainment.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

Yep, that's why I'm angry at the elves, too.

She was also sad that her father's corpse was rotting in his bedroom, but that's a minor inconvenience.
I love this game so much.

How does it go...

This isn't just a madhouse built by a madman, this is a madhouse built by many madmen, each with a intense hatred of the previous' particular flavor of madness.

Such is life. Sometimes you succeed in your goals and sometimes you and everyone around you is murdered by a gigantic spider.

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.

My favourite is a quote that I saw on the wiki (which probably was taken from this forum) that went along
the lines of:

"Dwarf Fortress taught me that it's ok to make a tent out of your neighbours skin, so long as you give it a name."

EDIT: Aww, I was hoping I had an awesome quote in my sig when I posted this.  But evidently I don't.

No one has gone missing or died. The year is still young.

Lielac likes adamantine, magnetite, marble, the color olive green, battle axes, cats for their aloofness, dragons for their terrible majesty, women for their beauty, and the Oxford comma for its disambiguating properties. When possible, she prefers to consume pear cider and nectarines. She absolutely detests kobolds.

GeneralissimoFranco: I had a game where a kitten killed a cyclops, but beyond that my experience mirrors yours.
—Reddit, "One of my fortresses finally had enough effect on the world to cause a change to the Golden Age."

UltimateCarl: This is the point where I'd normally call bullshit, but having (un)successfully ground no less than ten forts into destruction and abandoning three more to boredom after guaranteeing success I 100% believe that this happened in your game.
—Ibid. (In reaction to above quote)

"It's like regular childcare, except with more dogs and less care."
