Escaped Prisoner (Challenge)
« on: December 06, 2013, 07:46:57 pm »

Basically, to do this, spawn as a normal adventurer. If you have a pre-retired adventurer that is leveled up fairly well, great. If not, start as anyone else with whatever skills you want.

Now, pretend that whatever civilization is closest to you happens to have captured you and are going to execute you the next day. Take off all armor (clothing optional, but if you want to make things more interesting you can take it off too.)  and throw all weapons out, then fast-travel to the closest fortress/whatever it is (Preferably fortress because of the problems with the other bases.) and head to an area near a corner, very close to a human/elf/dwarf as well.

You are chained by your legs to that wall, and you arms are shackled behind you. Go to sleep until it's sometime in  the night (Dawn is probably best, at your current state the bogeymen will annihilate you.) and somehow kill the guard. You're probably going to have to choke them with your legs out and stomp them to death, Or bite out their throat. As soon as you do, you may then escape, as you have grabbed the key to unlock yourself. You may grab his items as well, but if you took too long to kill the guard/You called alarm, it may be best just to escape. Expect to die a horrible death the first time around if you do it wrong.

After this, survive as normal. Remember, this makes that civilization hate you (a lot) so it's a good idea to leave soon.

This challenge is mostly to make an interesting scenario and possible back story for adventurers, but will likely just end up in multiple failed attempts to kick through the helmet of the guard you just knocked out as the village folk attack you with everything they can find.

*Bonus Challenges*

Add a muzzle (Pear of anguish is really the only real-life medieval period one that I could find) so that you can't bite until you are free. EDIT: This also means that you CANNOT eat or drink until the muzzle is removed.

Make it so that the guards were tricky and only held the key for your leg; You still need to find a key (or something) to unlock your arms. This keeps you from using your hands until you obtain an item, so you will still have to use legs until you find the next 'key', or 'lockpick', or whatever. Make up an item that people carry to use. Remember, your hands are tied and therefore useless, so you will NOT be able to do anything that requires hands (I.E Throwing, punching, grabs w/ hands, using anything at all)

Add leg shackles. This is similar to the above challenge in rules, but instead of completely hindering you it will just slow you down. The only way I can think to slow your character down is to be constantly lying down, or sneaking. (Also, note that you CANNOT swim with these, so if you fall into water, you're done.)

Add all of the above together. Have fun trying to do... Anything at all! EXTRA: Make the item used to unlock your leg shackles and your arm ones different.

Set up a place to go to, such as a small village (PROBABLY NOT A GOOD IDEA TO BE OF THE SAME CIVILIZATION). Don't fast travel until you get there. When you do, consider yourself free and continue normally/retire.

Start out as a peasant. Maybe you didn't follow a mandate from your uppers.

As a female adventurer, Name yourself 'Leia', Take off all clothing except for a loincloth, and choke your guard to death using a chain.

Post your 'wonderful adventure' here.

(Unsure if this is the right place to put this, I didn't see anywhere else so I imagine it is.)

EDIT: After a bit of testing, I've realized that people in Dwarf Fortress are the heaviest sleepers of anyone I've ever known. Only once did a guard wake up after I attacked them, and he choked out the next turn. Due to this, I *Might* Suggest that you do the attack while the soldier is awake. Do note that in your unarmored state, one shot from just about any weapon will put you down, so it might be easier this way.

Well, Cerol Lulledaxe sure tried. Captured in battle during involvement in the non-humans' war for rights and independence, he was dragged off to rot, awaiting judgement (and likely execution). The humans were drunk on celebratory bloodlust from the fight, and it was easy for Cerol to sneak up on his unwary guard, who had neglected to attach his shackles and bindings to his wall particularly securely, and which now only bound his hands behind his back. Landing a kick in his gut to wind him, Cerol prepared to stomp down on this guard and unlock the key before anyone noticed above the din of raucous celebration. Alas, as he began to lay into him, the guard's friend nearby noticed, and rushed to his aid, sweeping Cerol's feet from under him and shattering his ankle. In vain, cerol tried to crawl away, but the guards began, with drunken glee, began to beat in Cerol's skull.

And so ended the (very short) prisonbreak of Cerol Lulledaxe.

Bonus: I drew Cerol's capture for fun in paint.

Poor Cerol.  This is a great idea, will try it tonight.  Though with my penchant for peasant adventurers I seriously doubt my ability to make the prison break.

So... Just for fun and experiment I took my legendary hero, drow swordmaster Mevena Battlewitch the Harmonies of Deterirating, said goodbye to her followers, armor and a pile of weapons, leaving just robe and loincloth for decency. Apparantly, lord of the town had taken quite an interest in her, as she was chained to the wall in the highest tower, closely watched by three guardians and Leteng Arthaabuth, giant brute of a human, totally loyal to his master.

She has waken up near midnight. A few torches were lit in the room and guards stood watchfully. Her legs and hands were chained together, not very closely yet still perfectly restricted. Another chain led straight into the wall... And her body was resticted by chains as well. Perhaps, no human could have freed himself from it. Yet, Mevena was a drow, agile, lithe and sly. It still took her some time but, using tooth of a great hydra, slain by her hands a month ago, hidden in dress, and some magic, in which she was quite inapt, she was able to rust and break one link from the wall chain.
- Harr, it's quite sleepy here, mateys.
- Yeah, indeed. Yet, you don't wanna answer Uzo if prisoner would somehow break free?
- Impossible! We have chained her throughtly!
- Hah, if you say so.
- Silence! - said Leteng in a husky voice, cutting short small conversation. - You better watch...YOUR BACK!
Swordguard reacted too late. Something closed on his throat, and, as he tried to free himself, he found out that he couldn't move his swordarm as well! Shouting, two other guards came to his resque - and drow allowed him to fall to the ground, gasping for air with teeth-teared throat, pouring blood.
Leteng was still quite a distance away, yet what he was seeing, was utterly impossible! Dark-skinned whitehair had slammed something long and white into his axe compation and he silently fell to groud, while that...monster, throughtly chained all over her body, teared pikeguard legs. He screamed in pain - and tried to free his bleeding limbs. Only to find that drow had stolen the key to her leg shackles and now inhumanly curved so that she could unlock them with her teeth. He tried to strike - but that valiant effort led to nothing.
- Go and warn the lord! - shouted high guardian, coming to the rescue.
Mevena was strong - very strong, indeed - yet, Leteng was much bigger by his race and his own measure. He threw female onto the ground, tackled and promtly hit into chest with his spear. She coughed blood, but managed to dodge the next blow. And, smiling, showed him a bronze key, taken from his waist. Leteng had just a few moment to realise that the freed drow stood now over the simple iron sword belonging to his deceased comrade...

And then it was a bloodbath. Tortured screams of lord, his guards and Ilum Uciaril, Sacred Jewel, flew far and wide, terrorizing simple folk, who watched castle in fear and disbelief. They heard screams from dark walls before, sure, but now... It really sounded like all forces of hell were unleashed there that night...

P.S. I firstly wanted to kill everyone with just arms and bites, but, alas, Mevena isn't experienced in that field. And I couldn't tackle damned Leteng. Still, really fun experience. Will probably try that with a new hero

Science is always important. But it needs more flaming cats. Can't we build bridge-based catapults and fling flaming cats at the dust and goo?

It's time for the ATHATH Death Counter to increase once more in celebration for the end of the world.

I awake.
Blurry memories... Drugged food...Guards were all around me.
Suddenly. Clarity. What is this? After all my years of service and good deeds? Betrayed by the very people I had sought to protect.
Stripped of my Armour and weapons, even my crutch I am forced to crawl to my doom.
Left out in the forest to die, no sun to warm my back. The moon is full tonight... a bad night to be outdoors. The bogeymen are never far from me. They can smell my odor and tonight it smells like revenge.
I know this countryside well. My only hope is to crawl for Castle MournStem and hope that the fair lady Ciko Gripstroke will take pity on me after all I've done for her.

I am undone! I hear the cackling of the bogeymen. I may only hope that death comes swiftly... and yet even now I feel the strong blood of Armok flowing through me. My father the half dwarf half human outcast had not given me much in this life, but I thank the gods I inherited his constitution and will to survive. I make a small pile of stones and back up against a small stream at the top of a waterfall. It won't be long now.

One of the beasts falls to my stones, a very lucky shot. The second one I strangle and kick to death but then the other three are upon me. I dive down the waterfall - my only hope of avoiding the beasts. Somehow the fall doesn't kill me and after swimming a few squares I realize that I am actually right at the entrance to the fortress. The beasts catch up with me squares from the keep. I am covered in blood and badly bruised. They obviously don;t think I have any fight left in me as they begin knawing on my limbs and torso while I continue to crawl the last agonizing steps towards safety(?). One of the guards rushes out and attacks a bogeyman.. at the same time one of the beasts kicks me in the chest bruising my lungs. Another one kicks me in the bowels and I instantly start vomiting. The third one tears into my chest with his teeth badly bruising my lungs and causing heavy bleeding. Surely a mortal wound. I crawl away gasping for help in between wretched breaths and vomiting. My badly damaged hands clawing at the dirt. It takes all my strength to keep going. The guard seems to be buying me some time, all three beasts turn their attentions on him.

I hear loud cackles and strange squelchy snapping noises that DONT sound good... I'm only squares from the entrance now when suddenly one of the beasts is upon me again. I manage to choke him with the tattered ruins of my limbs and in an act of desperation tear his face pretty badly with my teeth. He punches me spraying teeth everywhere then follows up with a charge. In some superhuman act, which I'll never understand, I manage to dodge the charge and tumble backwards into the keep.

The cackling fades and my body gives up. I pass out.

Hours later I awake. My bruising has subsided so I must have been out for sometime. I am shackled to a wall by my leg, still naked and in very bad condition My hands bound behind my back tightly. I guess the lady has decided not to show mercy on me. It appears to be almost dawn and I fear it will be my last.... But then. A AHA! The fools! Whoever shackled me was a complete simpleton. The leg shackles won't hold my leg in place as I don't have a left foot. I simply step out of it and sniff the air.

Years of hunting in the forests have taught me to be exceptionally quiet and have ultra high senses. I can almost taste the guard standing in the half light not 30 paces away. First to painful business. I employ the last of my endurance and manage to step through my arm bindings, getting my hands in front of me and giving me some maneuverability. I crawl over to the guard and position myself just right. I roll onto my neck and flip up into the air, grabbing him tightly around the neck with both legs. He calls out for help but it is far far too late. Years of wrestling practice come to the fore and I quickly render him unconscious. A swift kick to the head and his skull shatters like jelly. Sheep wool is no Armour.

A quick search of the body reveals a key and I'm free. Perhaps if I can't beg for my freedom then I can demand it. I grab an axe and the guards Armour and head for the lady's tower. Upon arrival I hear a icy cold voice calling out "Prepare to die!". The lady of the fortress rushes me and actually begins to try and kill me! I roll away fgrom her clumsy blows and prepare myself. As she approaches for another attack I use the same trick as before, but this time from the front. She runs straight into my lunge and my iron hard leg muscles choke the air out of her lungs. I watch as the light leaves her eyes then crawl off her. A swift blow of the guards axe and she is dead.

A brief search of her belongings reveals a backpack and a crutch. I quickly grab both and for the first time in two days stand up.

As I adjust the grip of the crutch in my left hand a slow smile plays across my face. Previously the price to hire me had been large, so I only think it's fair that the price for my spilt blood be even higher. I shall rid this wretched kingdom of it's nobles and free the populous.

I cannot repair my shattered teeth, ear or fingers but perhaps the weight of a crown upon my head will ease that burden?

- Aba
