You use a light spell, only sapping your focus for a second before it returns to normal. With that finished you feel like you are ready to take on whatever is going on outside. Or about as ready as you will ever be. You set out with your many things, smelling only slightly of  decay and open the rickety old wooden door.

The sun assaults you in what feels like the first time using your eyes... after a moment of adjustment you can see that yes, there is very little around you, especial in your immediate area. Some small dry looking grasses and a gnarly looking bush stand near the body of what was once a riding lizard, now charred to a crisp, releasing the odor of burnt flesh and still fuming a yellow smoke. You now see the corpse, due to it being on the side of the building.

You spin around to face the building you have just exited and give it a good look. It seems to be a sandstone structure for the most part buried in sand. You can see how it would be easy to miss save for the now massive pile of burnt junk and fried corpses. a small inscription on the door reads:

HLAALU FAMILY TOMB

You wrinkle your nose at the name, recognizing it only slightly. Some old dunmer name. losing interest in this little fact rather quickly you place your hand over the sun and peer into the distance. Luck favors you, for it is a clear day. You see what appears to be Dune off in the distance. Even more fortunate, you seem to be closer than when you got snatched up at that little tent dive.

You decide to begin your journey with a sigh. Before you go you must decide what to equip yourself with on your journey and what to carry.

Read the MUFFLE spellbook, to see if we can learn anything.

You read the book, the characters seeming to fall right off of the page into your mouth, mind, and soul. You now much better understand how to mask movements of you and your surroundings. It is actually a little counter intuitive, it does,t block sound altogether but makes a sort of unperceiveable white noise the seems to flow out from you in ripples as you perform actions, masking them with what the person thinks is just the sound of their own thoughts whizzing by in their heads. The book also makes you aware of a few other methods involving the Grey Zone method with alteration magic but does not go into any real detail.

When you are finished you hold an empty book. You drop it outside, dead weight.

You feel a little mismatched, but the boots can't help but be more comfortable than walking around barefoot, even if they feel a size to small and look fairly worn. You inspect the little relics;

Bits of the dusky red outer shell have peeled off in chunks revealing calcium layers in white levels. The leather creating the frame of the boot is pliable in some areas, but has hardened with sweat and pressure over time. The leather thongs functioning as laces have begun to fray and twist, looking ragged and only accentuating the fact that the laces were once dyed a different color as the uneven coloring on the boots. You finish combat knotting them and take a few steps around and decide that yes, they will function fine despite a few blisters.

Your first day (or night) of travel goes on in a nasty sort of way. Sand assaults you rather quickly, blocking visibility for most of the evening. You decide it best to just bundle up and sit out the storm and after a failed attempt at eating a very sandy papaya you decide catching up on sleep might be your best bet.

...

Hours later you wake in the day. The surroundings seem to have cleared considerably. A dune of orange sand lies in front of you which you decide to climb for a view. As you climb, you begin to see Dune's ivory colored towers twisting and coiling in the heat along with what appears to be a dirt road only a couple of days travel from here. A few unidentifiable trees speckle down her the road with what seems to be more vegetation, you assume it changes to a more of a savanna down there.

Of note, you can also see some black dots moving along the road, further up, just near the city. You assume that is the kajiits that you "met" earlier, but there is no certainty. Normally there would be trade caravans going up and down this road all day. You conclude this is not the trade gate, but a separate entrance, showing up as only a small domed pock in the wall, big enough to allow a wagon or two, probably.

The walls of the city don't look to far off and your water supply has kept you running, but is still only finite, and is about a third empty. You have decided to eat as little as possible to conserve water. You can't help but smile at how smart you are, thinking "Yeah I have done some traveling, and learned a few tricks on the way at that. If I had lived like a merchant and grown fat on my coin, I would already be dead." With the last word, the feeling of violation with this whole event wriggles in your insides like a cold, shivering parasite and diminishes your whole mood of success and you stare at one of the strange tattoos on your hand.

You sigh and crouch, watching the gate, attempting to determine what to do next.
