Best way to follow combat logs?

For those of you who keep close tabs on the fighting in DF, what's the most interesting way to follow combat logs in your opinion? Do you just hit 'r' while there's fighting going on and hope you get lucky, or is there a mod for this sort of thing I'm missing or something else that you do differently?

I play on a Windows machine so I found a program that mimics "tail" and I use it to tail the log file continously.
