Anyone know if ambushes spawn into their location or do they enter the map like other critters and move to their ambush spot?

They enter the map from the edge, like most other creatures, then slowly skulk their way to the nearest fort inhabitant.

Yup. They spawn on the map edge, creep towards their target zone, and before getting there, get killed by my welcome center.
