I am in game 177, currently ahead just because 2 out of 3 of my closest neighbors never logged in.

My neighbor to the west had people on all sides, so I quickly made an alliance with him so we could go after the next biggest.

I also made a tech alliance with someone far away, so far we've gotten eachother up to level 4 of all techs.

I am about to go to war with the next biggest player.

I think the trick is to not build economy or industry on your border, build it back more in your base, even if it is more expensive.

Have a couple of attack fleets and a couple of defense fleets. Be ready to respond when the shit hits the fan, never rely on garrasioned ships.

I was thinking about placement of infrastructure.

I dont have a solid opinion yet, but I think econ should be built everywhere, Science should be built away from borders as those are the most valuable targets.

I am currently building an industry heavy front with my ally/threat that will serve as a front base. I tried in nother game that I am in in making one heavy industry system, but I find it hard to get fleets where needed when this is done.

In this latest game, 154, I'm ahead by about 10 stars (59 to the other two, who have 49 each). They are ganging up on me (I'm a threat). They seem to be following a strategy of putting a lot of industry on one planet on the front line. I think this is a mistake. While it is true you only need to defend one planet, it offers a large target to your opponents to take.

I'm trying out the strategy of having industry built up on a lot of the planets in my backyard, along pre-determined routes. I constantly have a ships moving through those planets farming the ships and moving them to the front line - so while I rarely have groups as large as 100+ roaming around, I do have a constant stream of smaller groups reinforcing the front line. I will let you know if this strategy pans out in the long run.

I use a similar strat. I have two fleets that cycle through all of my back yard planets and bring the ships close to the front line.

I punched through the enemy lines early in the game with 56 ships, took a couple of systems, had a stand off, "retreated" to one of their least valuable stars and as soon as their fleet moved, I jumped their starting system (the one with the 2 science facilities).

My group has held it for a day now, but are down to 9 ships. Reinforcements are still a day away, but the enemy hasn't tried anything new yet.

It has to be very frustrating to have your main economy, industry, and science planet taken. The whole point was to force him to pull his fleets away from the front lines.

My current strat is to use system clusters, and place 5-6 industry on each,  that lets me have decent smaller fleets that I can en mass on systems that give me more ships per pay out.

I think doing the large single fleet is a poor strat, that its better to do several smaller moving in conjunction with one another.

This allows for greater diversity in ship deployment. Like in 157, I was gathering ships to do push into two systems, and I need to divert a small amount of ships for a system defense, without having to spend nother 25 space bucks for a new fleet.

My working formula to figure how many ship to invade with and round up.:

Defending Fleet divided by Attacker Weapon multiplied by Defender Weapon plus One

DF/AW*DW+1

My working formula to figure out how many ships to defend with and remember to round up:

Attack Fleet divided by (Defender Weapon plus One) multiplied Attacker Weapon plus One

AF/(DW+1)*AW+1

So in one game, I am being attacked with a fleet of 13 ships. I have a weapon tech of 8. So 13/9 gives 1.4. The attacker has a weapon tech of 6. So that gives me 8.6. So I need a minimum of ten ships to defend.

Sending a fleet of 12. Expecting 3 ships to live.

Userpay,

Purple will attack you very soon. I *may* have bought you time, as Purple asked me to help, I stated I would need a large incentive and a week to shift over my fleet.

It may be more opportune to redirect purple build up to attack Lime Green. That may need a planet for a jump access, if that happen I'll give up a planet so your planet number stays the same.

I currently cant attack purple, as it'll take a week to shift my forces to my southern border, and that will give Red a golden opportunity to attack me. I cannot repel red and attack purple.

Though if you're willing to suffer the system losses, you can get Lime Green to attack Purple, either case the decision should be made fairly soon.

Usperpay, I think I may have gotten Red to attack Lime Green.

If you abandoned the game, could you transfer all your science systems to me?

It'll be a short term boost, but a one that wouldn't hurt.

I think I've already sent you what I could, right now drawing ships into what industry producing planets I have.

I was waiting to play again until the updates were in place. The alliance features are now active and I have joined a new game to try them out.

I am playing a premium game, and I think you need a premium game to get the new features. This is fine with me and I bought the premium a while ago since i was impressed with the simplicity of gameplay and the depth of strategy involved.

Also, premium games mean little or no player drop-out, which can be kinda lame. All in all, i think it is worth supporting this little title, i trust there are more good updates to come.

I will report back on how much alliances affects gameplay.

OK I am now done with my alliance game.

It was great, I was exterminated but the politics were very fun and effective.

The gameplay is so simple in this game, but the strategy is very deep. There are so many factors that play into it. The distance of stars is a huge factor and that is random layout.

My enemy played a really nasty trick on me that basically begun my ending. There was a cluster of 3 stars that were very close together. We fought a small fight as is usual during the initial expansions and he ended up taking one of mine. I told him i would take it back and sent a fleet of 25 or so ships after he moved his fleet back to a different star. My mistake was that we had no alliance. Once my fleet was en route, he shifted his fleet back to the star of my destination. The closeness of the planets made it very easy for him to act at the last minute and for me it was too late. Outgunned, my fleet perished and so a war begun which I was never able to rally a defense.

great game.

I am thinking about starting a premium game for B12 players but I dont know if anyone else has premium credits. It is really worth it in my opinion, for $20 you get 200 credits and it costs 10 credits to join a premium game, 20 credits to create one, and 50 credits to create a prmium game that anyone can join for free. You can also password protect the game so only your friends can join.

So thats what I can do, I can create a premium game that anyone can join, passwords only. If you want to play, let me know. I can start the game so anyone can join for free, but I dont want any quitters!

Keep in mind, this is a protracted game, you play for about 30 minutes every day setting your strategy in motion and working the politics with the other players. A typical game lasts a couple weeks up to a month and more depending on map size. I will make a realtively smaller map so that our game doesnt stretch out forever.

I'm interested, my current game is drawing to it's closing stages and a new, more diplomacy focused game would be awesome.

Joined that game; starting in a pretty bad position, but hopefully some good diplomany and Hyperspace tech will help get out of it.  There's plenty of good expansion around, but it's not accessible to me.

This game really reminds me of Diplomacy in space.  I'm sort of hoping a neighbor reads my opening messages and responds something about Italy, as unlikely as that is.
