Why? I'm leaning real time with a pause but I'm open to persuasion. PST wasn't turn based- though Temple of Elemental Evil was.

I like RT-pause as well since I thought it did work well in the BG series, but I can definitely see the benefits of the turn-based system they outline (adapting existing systems, better synergy).  Well, I haven't voted yet, though I'm curious to see other people's reasoning.

Googling 'worst combat in a game' gives PS:T as three suggestions on the first page.  I'm inclined to agree.

The original was generally a slow game where every decision mattered, and I feel that a turnbased battle system would complement that better than realtime with pause.  The voting page itself explicitly states that we'd get a more complex system with turnbased, which is more than enough to convince me.

I'm fine with either system, but I voted for turn based just because there's comparatively few turn based rpgs these days (though I suppose there has been a small revival of them recently).

For a top-down camera game like this I really think the PS:T, BG, IWD, NWN method works really well: pause to give orders, unpause to see them carried out in realtime. If you have just one character or you don't mind what your companion AI is doing, you might not need to pause. Eventually you get good enough that you can play a spellcaster with a hotbar in realtime and it's no biggie.

Hope they put in options for friendly fire. I'd love to see enemy wizards roast their own people in Fireballs and stuff. Of course it cuts both ways. And most people won't want FF and that's ok. But it would be cool to have the option.
