Cleaning a corpse
« on: November 27, 2013, 11:57:49 am »

So my fodder squad managed to strike down a local forgotten beast and its deadly vapors. The syndrome wasn't anything too bad - minor fever, dizziness and a bit of nausea.

However, the FB's corpse is drenched in this extract. I would like to butcher the thing, but I fear that its extract would infect the whole fort. Is there any way I can get my dwarves to clean it? Or will butchering the corpse just automatically get rid of the extract?

I understand that it is disappointing when a dwarf makes a spiked loincloth instead of an axe.

I've never had any problems with the dwarves butchering the FBs (aside from putting stuff besides the meat in the wrong stockpile, but can't blame them for the confusion I guess) and I've had a good number of noxious secretion FBs. I haven't tracked whether the extract contaminates anything, but I don't think so.

The most direct method to clean a corpse is to pour water over it, although this can have the frustrating effect of simply moving the contaminant everywhere else.

I'd probably build a butcher shop next to the corpse and assign a migrant cheesemaker to do the job.

As long as your dwarves are well clothed, there shouldn't be any problems.

and after it's butchered, my guess is that the contaminant is gone. So yeah, cheesemaker/beekeeper Urist McExpendable and hope for the best. Skill isn't a big factor in butchering anyway, so even a legendary one isn't such a big loss

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
