Magma channel gone wrong
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:37:57 pm »

Due to a costly mistake (silver mechanisms are not magma-safe) I now have to magma full channels I can't really control. Are there some way I can stop the flow without huge cave-ins?

It is down in level -120 or so, so it is not super easy to get water down there.

Try doing pond zones? It'll have to be at least two z levels up, but I think it'll work.

To turn one square of  magma into the lava-stone (Obsedian*) will the rest of the lave then cool down or dry out?

I thought it sounded like you had an uncontrollable flow somewhere, but yeah if you block off the flow and the rest of the magma has room to disperse, it will.

I don't even know what your setup looks like though.

It is uncontrolled, but in channels so no danger of a huge fortress melt down. Will try your advise :)

Assuming that the magma can drain somewhere, yes plugging off the source will let the magma disperse and dry out (or solidify rather, we don't get solidified lava flows yet, in that it will cool and solidify on its own). Otherwise if whatever the flow is going to, is filled up (or has filled up), you'll have to obsidianify the rest.

I have now successfuly drained the channels for magma and created a obsidian creation-chamber, but now I need to pump some back into the system.

Is it possible to do this with manuel power without killing the worker in the process? Tried a few set-ups but since the screwpump is only 2x1 tiles the magma always seems to drain into the worker.

edit: problem solved (I think)
edit2: No, not solved...
edit3: Found a work around (dig into another magma chamber)
