Encumbrance just slows you down, so you get less attacks vs a lighter fighter.
Allays layer mail with breastplates or there will be gaps in the coverage on the upper arms.
A leather cloak or robe is a good idea as a splatter shield.
Leather is crap armour once you start facing iron or bronze weapons it just cant stop the blows that often.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.
