How to selevtively pasture animals
« on: November 05, 2013, 07:17:50 am »

Say I have 100 pigs and I want to pasture a particular group of them to a new area... is there any way of doing this?

The only Thing I've come up with so far is putting all 100 of them in cages and then pasturing them from that... but I'm hoping there is a much easier way.

if you remove them from their current pasture, they won't have the sign for 'assigned a pasture' anymore and are easy to pick out for the next pasture. If you really need specific animals from all over the place I don't know if there is an easy way to do so

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Create a Pasture Area  i and choose size, now press n to make it a pasture and press N for a list of creatures to put in the pasture.

iirc, that list is in chronological order. first arrived at the fort or born there, first on the list Maybe that helps?

Maybe you should just slaughter the ones you don't need.

There is a dfhack utility/plugin(?) to search for animals in the "assign to pasture screen". For pigs you would have to search for "piglet", "sow" and "boar" to include all of them and you could get some additional animals like "wild boars" or "cavy sows" but it helps tremendously.

Just be careful, searching for "pea" for all your peafowl will also find "goblin spearmen".
