Forced Mayor? (AKA Force Social Skills Training)
« on: October 29, 2013, 02:54:50 am »

What's the most effective way I could force a particular Dwarf to be my Mayor? He's got fairly average social skills, but a few others have more so they usually beat him in the election. I'd like to just ensure he has a better chance of winning.

I've heard a 'tiny meeting hall' is useful for this, but how can I force a particular sub-set of Dwarfs to use a secondary meeting hall instead of the master one?

Isn't it just assigning the Dining Room to the mayor in question? Then I guess you can create more room within the same room and assign his supposed possey there?

Oh... small room (3x3 maybe), 2 tables, 2 chairs and make 1x1 dining rooms... assign them to particular dwarfs... wait until both are in that room and then lock the door? Occasionally rotate out the 'possey' dorf.

Make sure there's some food and booze in there so they don't get red message fever but I guess that would work. Otherwise you could make a military squad which assigned weapons is cups or something and make them a pretty dining barrack and set them to training at all times.

You can overide the election btw.  When a new dwarf gets elected just go into the nobles screen and (R)eplace the mayor with your chosen dwarf.  you do have to keep an eye on it because the dwarves will periodicly reelect a new guy and you'll have to replace him agian.

As to training social skills definatly disable all that dwarves skills so he idles somewhere.  you could also try assigning a small meeting/dining hall somewhere and make a barrow that covers just that hall, the food stockpile, and his rooms.   you might not even need to assign him partners if you have a fair number of ideling dwarves.   When I have several meating halls in addition to the main one I'll usualy find small clusters in the small secondary locations once my population reaches a point where I cant keep everybody employed constantly without resorting to mass drafts or pointless stone hauling.
