It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Same here. PBEM seems easier with large groups of players, although SotS doesn't have it and couldn't with realtime battles (without autoresolving them all). (I'm playing a PB-dropbox SMAC game currently)

On the note of multiplayer for SotS I, I found this on their forum while looking for an interesting AAR:

For direct connect to work, host needs to start their game in LAN mode, then other can join direct connect. It will not work in Internet mode (thanks to Gamespy's dead corpse getting in the way.)

Hmm. Hamachi can get around that.

I have enjoyed Distant worlds a lot.
It's hard to recommend though because of the massive price tag for the game and expansions. The kind of meh windows-ish ui (with small text) and the lag when zooming is a bit irritating as well but works and I can live with them.
