I'm sure this is a problem other people have had before, but I didn't see the answer anywhere. My farmer frequently tells me that he has no plump helmet spawn to plant, but I can see that there is a bag of dozens of them all alone in a stockpile. I also checked the stocks once when he was doing this, and discovered that I had the max 200 plump helmet spawn! He is also still (slowly) farming plump helmet anyways. So, what do I do to fix this?

EDIT: I think sometimes a dwarf takes the seed bag and the other one can't plant anything. Is there any way to fix this?

Maybe that barrel of spawn was Forbidden for some reason? I don't know what it could be...

It's not a barrel though, since I read on the wiki that barrels will cause my problem when one farmer walks off with it and the other needs seeds. Barrels are disallowed from that stockpile. I just checked, and the bag in there isn't forbidden.

A common problem is that the seed bag is not where it belongs because it was taken to pick up a stray seed laying around the dining room.

a common solution is make 2 separate seed piles: the one that they plant from only accepts from links and link it to the second pile.  they can both be right next to farm.

Sorry to semi-hijack this thread, but when I tried this it did absolutely nothing to reduce the cancelation spam.  I think my issue was that bags were still being used in one stockpile, but I'm not sure how that can be stopped...

Perhaps we should suggest a "max bags" setting for stockpiles to go with barrels and bins?

There do exist other possibilities:

1) not enough bags to get another seed bag started
2) not enough seeds in general
3) too many planters (they would each need a bag)
4) tangled stockpile links
5) a blind planter who cannot find the seeds

1. I did only have two bags in the stockpile at one time, although that could have just been due to haulers constantly taking them.
2. I believe I had over 100 seeds.
3. Oh...if this is true then I was about four bags short.  I'll bring more on embark next time and see if that helps.
4. The only link was from the no barrels seed stockpile to the barrels seed stockpile.
5. 6 blind planters having never fought in their lives...unlikely.

That is probably my problem. I think I have two planters, but only one bag. Thanks!
