World Gen Help
« on: October 01, 2013, 04:14:11 pm »

Help, I don't know what I've done but I seem to have messed up world gen.  I can't generate a world with any flux stone!

I changed the volcanoisation levels, trying to get more interesting (easy i'm relatively newbieish) mix of minerals and I set mineral scarcity down to 100.  I don't think I changed any other parameters and I have been creating medium regions.  Now I have no flux stone anywhere!

I did have one region where I found a really good site with some gold and silver ores etc, but when I tried to embark I did not recognize any of the animals I could take with me.  I only want my pet dogs and maybe a chicken or two and perhaps a cat!

Instead it seemed I'd have to have a shaggybadgerdog if I wanted one at all...

I was very confused and so quit off trying to get the normal creatures back!

Any advice would be welcome, I'd prefer something more constructive than, "go back to vanilla" but if that's what I should do then I guess I should be off!

1. Embark finder is broken, cant find flux. Its a vanilla DF bug, and there is flux, no worries.
2. Turn "Creature:DomesticPets:Off" (this added the new ones)
3. Turn "MiscFeatures:SimplePets:Off" (this removed the old ones)

This way you dont have the badgerdogs and tuskoxen and so on, but instead play only with the vanilla domestic pets. It will cause a mild errorlog, because the Warbeast Kennels cant find all the new creatures, but its harmless.

Volcano embarks are often without flux. My 3i game had, quite literally, none. However, ore processing will score you a little, and you can turn bones to bonemeal flux at the mill.

Thanks both, I'm happy try new animals, I just wanted my old fail safe food turkeys/chickens!

So I should you dfhack prospect all at embark to look for flux?

I had to reinstal anyway as I set something very very wrong and all I got was hundreds of rejects and a screen full of green!

No idea what you did, its just download, unpack, run .exe.

If you want to prospect, thats your thing. Why is it so important to you? You can make your own flux in the mod from bones. :)

And turkeys/chickens might have a lot less eggs then you might remember. ;)

Less is not none right? lol ;)

Flux was only important to me until I realised I could make my own!

I  press P (set preset field values) hoping to reset the values and messed it up that way, re installed just fine.  I prospect mainly cos I got several years into a fort before finally giving up as copper was the strongest metal I could make and even my dwarf caravans couldn't get me steel or an ore for iron!  I ain't great at staying on top of a military, I normally mesh one together when some huge beast that would be utterly terrifying if it hadn't been made entirely from paper, turns up!

;)

I'll get to enjoy your mod sometime tomorrow!  Thanks for the advice and patience...  :)
