Do animal men become friendly when get named?
« on: October 04, 2013, 10:10:54 am »

After fighting some ant men in caves and losing many miners and woodcutters to them, I noticed few friendly ant men crawling around.

Is a known fenomenon? Because I can't explain their existence otherwise.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

yeah, that seems to be the case. Named creatures can turn friendly. I've seen it many times when animal men kill a FB in the caverns, I've never seen it with names earned from killing dorfs.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

I've seen it happen that hostiles that aren't invaders turn friendly after killing one or more fortress members, including pets. They can still be marked as a target for a kill order, and will become hostile again immediately if attacked, but in the mean time they can safely be ignored (although they always make me nervous).

I don't have nearly enough nobles.

Is that... Professor Pym?

(*crosses fingers that he didn't get his obscure superheroes mixed up*)

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

In a previous fort I had an amphibian woman blowgunner (or spearwoman?) that became friendly after killing a FB before the thing was revealed to me. Died to another FB later on though.
