Defensive Design... doesn't work.
« on: March 03, 2008, 04:16:00 pm »

So I had a moment of brilliance and made a defensive design I thought would be quite good.
Essentially it was some up ramps next to a wall that went around my entrance.

Outside of the wall were some more up rams connecting nothing. So on ground level it look like:

^ = up ramps
.... = nothing. grass, etc
= = wall

code:

^......=^
^......=^
^......=^
^......=^

Then I designated a bridge to be built above this. So one Z level up would look like:

B = bridge
(all the other codes from before used)

code:

^BBBBBBBB^
^BBBBBBBB^
^BBBBBBBB^
^BBBBBBBB^

Stoneworker got trapped underneat the bridge, no one would use it, but my Depot a few space inside the wall was still flagged as accesible.

Any ideas?

You need walls on the left side: a ramp is useless unless there's a wall next to it, even with a bridge there.  (Edit: I know because the identical design failed for me a long time ago)

Ah hah. I see. That would explain everything. Thanks!
