(Glaciers) Ice is Water!
« on: April 27, 2007, 11:12:00 pm »

Well, just found out by losing both my legendary miner/engravers that if you dig a channel in glacial ice, it instantly fills with water that cannot be escaped from like any normal water-filled channel.

Yeah... It's supposed to do that.

Probably will in the next version, too, depending on how thick the ice on the glacier is.

And, ironically unrelated to /that/ issue..

I just lost two horses, and FIVE farmers to a single seasonal flood.  On a 'handrail' bridge!

I'm getting violently annoyed..

A "Handrail bridge" is a collection of 3 bridges, where the bridge to the north and south raise towards the central bridge.

The central bridge can be any size, and as long as the two "hand rails" are touching the central bridge when in the raised position, the setup will function flawlessly.
[At least, that's what's supposed to happen. I think dwarves can still "slip through" from time to time]

I personally have found that dwarves won't slip through if the handrails connect up with stone that isn't dug out, and the flood cannot flood around.  Usually this means other accessways for fisherman and lumberjacks in tree farms but oh well, they can't be helped.
