overflowing magma
« on: March 02, 2008, 10:10:00 pm »

If the magma source is above the end of the magma channel, will it overflow and flood the room the same way water does?  Diagram:
code:

bottom level of vent:

MMMM
MMMMCC>
MMMM

1 z-level below:

....            FFF
......<>........_FF
....            FFF

2 z-levels below:

....
.......<CCCCCCCCC
....

Key:
M = magma
. = unmined ground
> = downstairs
< = upstairs
C = channel
F = magma fueled workshop
_ = access to magma

Magma is "chunky" which means that the pressure model Toady has in place for liquids doesn't apply, so even if you had a huge 15 level pillar of lava "pushing down" on the magma in the channel, it still wouldn't overflow the channel's banks.
