They won't do nothing [solved]
« on: August 29, 2013, 09:20:41 am »

I embarked in an evil tundra, and started building a fort on a hilltop. Everything was going fine, was just about to start digging up the industrial area
when i noticed someone died of thirst, and noticed that my dwarves stopped making booze. I quickly gave the order to everyone to make booze, but
many dwarves started dying. I was down to 7 dwarves, two of them were mad, and both my miners were dead. Fortunately, before everything went to hell,
25 migrants came and i was really happy. The problem is, they won't do anything. There is a huge amount of stone to be moved to the stone stockpile as well
as wood, and since my 2 miners died i turned on mining for some of them. They won't do shit. A couple of them are actually doing something, while the others
just stand around with the 'No Job' description. I use dwarf therapist, and i tried turning the jobs on and off, but still nothing. What do i do?

Designate meeting areas to see if you screwed up routes.
Dwarves will still work without booze, for a time. Just really slow.
If you have evil rain and evil monsters the only thing you can do is hole up, and dig to a cavern.

Unless you want to try and put a ceiling over everything.

See of you toggled something foolish in work orders, like "Dwarves gather food", or if stuff like those picks is forbidden.

Re. drink specifically, do you 1) have brewable plants and 2) have them set to brewable in the kitchen submenu of the (z) screen?

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!
I spend most of your dimension's time outside of your dimension. I can't guarantee followup or followthrough on any comments, ideas, or plans.

I created a stockpile for wood that was in the cart, and all the idle dwarves just poured out and started carrying it.

They actually walk up to the stone stockpile, and then just turn back.

With their stupid little wheelbarrows.

And nothing is wrong with dwarves gathering minerals at the ordering setting.
The problem is not in the brewing, but the idling.

Sometimes they just cancel building a wall, because the job item is lost or destroyed

Found the solution! The stockpiles had a number of assigned wheelbarrows, and only the wheelbarrows assigned to it can be used,
so the amount of dwarves carrying things is limited to the number of wheelbarrows.
