Questions about modding

I'm trying to add some of the new creatures, however, I'm unclear as to how to do it.  When I try opening the object files for the different kinds of creatures, any program I try using to open them just gives me meaningless jumbles of symbols, to include MSWord set to ASCII...

Huh?

The creature files are all in general folders, they shouldnt have individual files.

You want the files in the raw folder, not the data folder.
