Very noob-ish question regarding Vampires

Can vampire dwarves drink blood from those barrels of blood the traders keep bringing with them? If not... why? It seems like a really easy solution to a really big problem when you have vampire dwarves to just get some from the traders (or make them I just never bothered learning how.) and leave them laying around in an unguarded stockpile.

Nope, vampires are picky and only drink fresh blood straight from the dwarf.

So far as I know barrels of blood & ichor have no real use, which is a pity 'cos the blood at least could logically be used for things like "Blood Sausage" & "Black Pudding", or (IIRC) an ingredient for fermenting milk(s) into booze.

All of which has probably been modded in by someone, but I currently play the LNP-version of vanilla.
