In the event Bay12 can't get regular AOEII games going to your liking:
Get the unofficial expansion pack that is better than the HD re-release.
Check out gameranger because there are AOEII games going 24/7 there.

I would love to but its an issue of scheduling, both for me and getting 4+ people at the same time for a proper game.

Good to hear it. The thing about these old multiplayer games is that there tends to only be a small community of experts.
