Hey guys, iv had a dream for a long time of a 3D game were you maintain a spacestation/spaceship.

The most recent thing that is similar to my game is Space Station 13 which you all seem to enjoy.

I have been making this game for myself for a while now but i was just wondering what sort of interest there would be for it?

I was considering putting my game up soon on a Desura as a free download and the ability to donate if they choose to.

I realise that a space craft sim is a very specialised interest but im just reaching out to see if anyone would find this sort of thing enjoyable.

Some features:

Multiplayer.(in progress)

Inventory System.(in progress)

Ingame Computers. (Logged into with ID cards)

Vital needs: Food(maybe),Water(maybe),Oxygen, Suitably pressurised environment.

Ranks/Jobs; (This includes doors needing correct id clearance.)

Power (still very very early)

A working atmospherics (not started yet)

Construction/Deconstruction (will be a while away.)

Varying Game-modes/Objectives.

Notes

Doors:
Lets just say in your office you can use your computer to set your door to 'ON REQUEST' which means people press a buzzer beside your door and you let them in.
Other Settings also include things like whether a door will auto open or will require a button press(and/or ID).

Computers:
Work with computers is something similar to command prompt, you select commands. LIGHTTOGGLE toggles room lights. LIGHTOFF 3 turns off whatever light 3 might be in the room your in.
Then you have obvious stuff like HELP or CLEAR to clear the screen.

Just lastly guys i know about projects like centration and i think they have different goals then me. I see my game as much more of a successor to SS13 then theirs, as they are going for a darker tone in their game.

EDIT: Hey guys you can have a very early single player test  https://mega.co.nz/#!WNtUBbaJ!B93hM3il1HaPKfjUYVlP8QqhZ71HOvJzhkA7wyAuJKs  (Better than screenshots  :P)

edit: sorry press e to access computer and escape to leave it.

Type HELP for info on what you can do so far.

I always thought an SS13 game would be better in first person. A tile-based construction/ship system would work fine, and people actually don't have 360 vision.

But yeah, if you're working on this game, do you have any screenshots for us?

3D SS13. Nor just an idea. With a working prototype. No. It just cannot be. I... I need to see it.

So, is this going to be 3D like mesh+texture 3D, or 3D like a 3D map with 2D sprites, like Wolfenstein 3D?

Also, how would handling items be resolved?

I imagined you'd be able to manipulate things by pointing and clicking them, or holding CTRL or something brings up the cursor. You could have hotkeys that activte items in your hand, or right clicking objects would show you valid actions you can do with the items in your hand depending on what you're clicking on.

How about left click for left hand, right click for right hand, middle click to let you interact with things in your inventory (some sort of context menu).  Scroll wheel could change intents, or crtl/shift could affect intents.  I wouldn't want inventory hotkeys, they would keep there from being a need to prioritize where you put things.

I think a Minecraft-style system would be better, if right- and left-clicks were reversed. Left-click always performs that tool's main function, right-click just attacks with whatever's in your hand. If an item has multiple functions, make an alt-fire button that changes what the right mouse button does when held down. You have an "active" hand which you have the most control over, and an "inactive" hand that can be left performing a task with less accuracy while you use the other.
