Problem with lever/bridge linkup
« on: August 11, 2013, 03:03:55 pm »

Hello..I cant figure out how to link a level with my bridge. I have 30 mechanisms in storage..I click on the lever and select new task..choose link up a bridge..click on the bridge and I get a black screen showing the weight of the bridge in yellow and nothing else. My understanding is that at that point I am prompted to pick mechanisms but I never seen that option. What am I doing wrong ?

I'm not familiar with the mouse use, I usually use + and - to cycle through the bridges. If I move the cursor in any way, I go out of the bridge connection menu

edit:
try using the keyboard, not the mouse, and don't do anything but use + and - to cycle through the bridges and use enter to confirm. Maybe it's possible, I just don't know how

I dont think you can sellect the bridge with a mouseclick.  The plugin that alows mouse interaction is probably determining you want to examine the bridge when you click on it.   Just use keyboard commands to select the proper bridge from the list and hit enter, you should get brought to the pick mechanisms screen.

So, suggestion is to use the keyboard instead of the mouse, because it could be it simply doesn't work with the mouse since extended use of the mouse isn't really in the original game. Please try.

And yes, we are all aware that the user interface is not user friendly

That sounds more like you hits k or some kind of mouse looking option. After selecting the option to link to bridge, you should get a list of bridges to choose from, and then option to choose mechanism after picking a bridge.

hide means it's set not to be visible to you, I never uses that option myself.

Perhaps a problem with the display of characters? Try pressing F12 to changr display mode.

I'm pretty sure someone had this same problem and posted about it this week. please hold.... ... ...
edit:
yep,
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=129488.0

That person was using Ironhand graphics pack and a mouse plug-in, I don't know if you are. If you are, it's worth mentioning. Graphic packs and tilesets are also modifications to the game, as is the mouse plugin mentioned in the thread. Every mod can cause issues and problems. I suggest either using F12 to switch truetype or disable the mouse plug in and try again if you use it, just like suggested in that thread. If that doesn't work, ask questions in the thread of the specific mods - they are the specialists on it. One thing it is not is an issue with the game itself or your computer.

Good luck!
