Could some one help me with my computer?
« on: July 15, 2013, 12:52:56 pm »

First of all here is the details of my computer: Win 7, 32 bit, 8 gb RAM (i can only use 4 GB because of 32 bit), Home premium

Now the problem:

I opened task manager and looked at "resource monitor" and i found that on the right hand side it only showed one CPU

I have a quad core laptop, Why are the other cores not being detected? Could it be because of the type of win 7 i have (home premium)?

I am a complete NOOB at computers so I will apologize in advance if I make any stupid mistakes

additional details:

Long ago i had the failure that is win 8 (64 bit)

then it crashed and i had to install win 7 (32 bit)

the end.

hmm did you go to the CPU tab to check they are there and does Task Manager shows 4 CPU graphs cause if your cpu is only reporting for one core this shouldnt be working at all. Also what is your processor?

Use this http://www.hwinfo.com/, it should show your Quad-core. Though you might have the wrong driver installed.

Download it from here http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html.

If windows is "crashing" badly enough to force you to reinstall the OS then either you're doing something incredibly stupid (e.g. running porn-definitely-not-a-virus.exe as admin) or you have a massive hardware failure somewhere in your pc. Windows (7+ at least) is rock solid. The last blue screen I've seen was about a year ago, and even that was traced to faulty ram. I can't even remember the last blue screen crash I encountered that wasn't caused by faulty hardware.

Note: If it's faulty hardware you'll have the same kind of crashes on Linux.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.
