Sooner or later we are going to be corvered and have to fight. We need something to make this more survivable - we need a weapon and we need one ASAP. It doesnt matter how crude or simple - anything is better than fists.

we need a weapon and we need one ASAP...

build a tower to wait out the night...

The zombies will headbutt the tower until it collapses...

could we build under ground...

get some wood on the ground...

chop down some trees...

We need something...

They have destroyed and collapsed a house i was spending the night in...

Joan runs further northeast, not responding to the chatter in her head as she puts more distance between herself and the zombies immediately behind her.  She pauses to tear through another pile of trash, looking for something, anything, then her desperate voice barks, sounding angry and afraid, "Are you ghosts?  Are ghosts talking to me?  Did you bring me here?  Did the zombies kill you?"

The only place on Navezgane that i've found so far to be completely safe, is that single brick house in village X.

She leans against a dead tree, her gaze desperate and wide, then she paws the map out of her pocket, scanning it frantically for anything about a village or about 'X' and not finding anything.  "Where is it, where?  Is there a phone there?  Does the door lock?" she begs in a raw voice.

Spoiler: The map (click to show/hide)

should chop down some trees with her awesome karate skills

Joan's face twists into a terrified frown.  "I don't know karate.  I'm not some superhero, I'm just a girl..."  Another glance behind her, checking to make sure no zombies are near, then a longer glance at the devistation that surrounds her, how lost and alone she is, then Joan makes the weak, loose-fingered 'fist' of an utterly untrained fighter and punches the tree beside her, screaming "Oww!" as she does.

Spoiler: First punch (click to show/hide)

Cringing as she finishes the punch, Joan now stares at her fist.  Her hand isn't broken, the skin isn't torn.  "That... didn't hurt," she breathes in a whisper.  She starts punching the tree again, her motions all desperate and fierce wild roundhouse swings, her fingers still loose but somehow still not getting broken.  "But I can't..." she starts to say on her eleventh punch, the tree seeming unaffected, then suddenly she screams as the tree emits a rending noise and begins to fall.  She leaps sideways then runs backwards, trying to get away from it, watching as it smashes itself into pieces.

Spoiler: Tree fall (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Fallen wood (click to show/hide)

Squawk, get some wood on the ground, make sticks, make club, ,run for loot, then get to house, or make A torch, using sticks and paper, SQUAWK!

Joan rubs the sides of her head, then collects the wood with hands shaking from excitement and fear. "But I don't know how to...  And did you see what that tree did?" she complains, as she looks down at the wood, somehow neatly sectioned with no trace of branches, leaves, or char.  "It's not even heavy!  How am I supposed to make sticks out of these trunks, the branches are gone..."   Her voice trails off in wonder as her hands somehow seem to understand what to do.

Spoiler: Crafting start (click to show/hide)

Almost entranced, she turns wood into another type of wood, into another, again and again, finally seeing how to shape some of it into a club. The rest becomes a huge number of sharp wooden spikes, which seem much like the punji sticks she'd read about in history class.  "What am I, Buffy or something?"

Spoiler: The finished club (click to show/hide)

could we build under ground some where they can't get to?

Emboldened, she tries, first punching one of those cinderblocks a good twenty times or so but it never shatters.  She tries to punch the ground, but finds she cannot really hit it, not even when she crouches.  She runs to one of the standing brick walls and punches that several times, but it too resists whatever force she is able to apply.

While she experimented with these things the sun continued its slow march across the sky.  The deeper heat of afternoon starts to become noticable.  "Okay, Rupert," she says to the open air. "Gotta aim for the head?  This club can kill the zombies, right?"

She turns in a slow circle, inspecting the area around.  Stone, trees, cinderblocks, a few single standing walls, and a pond.  Some bushes, some weeds, the occasional pile of trash, each of which she has searched as she spotted it, and none of which has had anything but paper or cloth that she can find any use for.

"What do I have to do to get out of here?"

Now we have a weapon! That is a good start!

Here is my suggestion:

Head towards Spillway Lake, and see what you can find on the map. Perhaps we can spot a town or... Something.

I NEED A PERSONALITY SO SHE CAN GO MORE CRAZY.... wait I'm one of the logical dudes. Right.

Alright. It's twelve now, I would suggest moving to one of those brick houses and figuring out what you have, what is in there, and organizing your shit, maybe taking a closer look at your map and figuring out where to go look for stuff.

OOC: I have never played the game, if this stuff wouldn't work in game, then let me know

OOC: The first alpha of this game just came out, few know this game at all, and I am mostly just playing it to prepare these updates too, so I'm still newb.  It's fine if you want to give the best, smartest, most effective, game world effective suggestions - but there's some fun to be had with every other sort of suggestion too.  Just have fun with it and say what you want, and I'll try to weave everything together into a hopefully neat story that shows what the game can and can't do - at least in my newbie hands.

Head north, follow the 73rd past the river, brick houses. Safer. Get there before night falls.

Collect scrap. Useful.

Now we have a weapon!

SQQUUAUWWWKK

I'm one of the logical dudes...

Collect scrap. Useful...

see what you can find....

I NEED A PERSONALITY...

make torch with paper and sticks...

Get there before night falls...

maybe taking a closer look at your map...

Head towards Spillway Lake...

moving to one of those brick houses...

Head north, follow the 73rd past the river...

Joan sticks her fingers in her ears to better hear you.  After a moment, she pulls out the map and studies it.  "Highway 73, Spillway Lake, and brick houses.  This is the way to Village X, right?"  She stuffs the map back into her pocket, then squints at the sun to orientate herself.  She starts heading more or less directly north.

This requires climbing a hill, dodging around several zombies, rocks, trees, burned out cars far from any sort of road and shattered portions of brick no-longer-buildings.  She sees a less destroyed car as she crosses Lang road and loots a gas can, more paper, and more cloth from it.  An oven standing beside a shattered brick wall offers her a couple pieces of scrap metal.  A few piles of trash provide a few more pieces of paper, but it's not until she sees green ahead that she really stops.

Green, living green, grass and trees that are not burned up, and a deer.  An antlered buck, grazing calmly near the border between blackened land and this living region.  It doesn't look like a zombie, it looks alive and for one wild moment Joan thinks she has somehow found a way back to somewhere much closer to home.

The sounds of the zombies, their moans carried by the wind from somewhere not to far away, and a check of the map shatters that dream.  She'll soon be passing Spillway Lake and decides to follow highway 260 northwest towards Highway 73.

Spoiler: Map update (click to show/hide)

She realizes as she compares the map to what she can see ahead, that though the 260 is marked with the circle of a highway, what's ahead of her is simply a single lane road 'paved' with concrete, barely wide enough for two cars to pass each other without colliding and not the wide freeway she expected.  Following the 260 northwest leads her past a sign, which she stops to read.

Spoiler: A sign. (click to show/hide)

Deer are plentiful here, at least as plentiful as stalled out cars.  Though she's only followed the road for a half hour, she realizes that she's not seen or heard a zombie since leaving the burned and blackened lands.  There is no birdsong either, but she can hear loud insects singing, crickets or katydids, or maybe it's treefrogs instead.  This is not as good as hearing a phone ring, as hearing her parents' voices again, but it is better than hearing zombies, forever better.

Spoiler: Oh deer. (click to show/hide)

Searching the trunk of the car ahead reveals a sawn off shotgun and six shells, as well as a more leather and paper.  She collects this, making sure she can easily reach the gun and its ammunition then jumps as a rising screech alerts her.  There, on the road directly behind her is one of the things.  For an instant she hesitates, torn between the desire to shoot it and the desire to run away and never look back again.  The zombie lurches closer and she and flees frantically. "What if the gun can't kill it, what if it can't die?" she gasps as she runs towards highway 73.  She wonders if the insects or frogs, whatever is singing, is so loud that they mask the sounds the zombies usually make.

Spoiler: Guns and zombies (click to show/hide)

It's not far to 'highway' 73, which seems to be another narrow lane.  Still, it's there, and somewhere ahead must be the brick buildings the voices told her about.

Spoiler: The intersection (click to show/hide)

She continues up the road, finding a little more scrap metal, paper, some hubcaps, and a second shotgun with 6 more shells in the cars and trash piles she searches.  Then she spots it, right ahead.  A building, looking intact instead of the shattered parts of single walls she's seen everywhere else.  It is red, maybe made of bricks.  Is it a barn?  More importantly, does it have a phone?  "I'll be safe in there, right?"

Spoiler: The barn (click to show/hide)

She fumbles with a stick and some paper for several minutes, before almost giving up in frustration.  "I can't... It won't..."  In desperation she tries to wrap the stick with one of the cloth fragments she also has.  This seems to work better.

Spoiler: A torch (click to show/hide)

Save the damn gun for when you truly need it, not just for random zombie encounters. I swear Joan if that gun has less than six shells when you decide to come out of your catatonic state, I will punish you by not making you tea.

You look like you need a drink!

EDIT:

Wait! Go in the barn first! There might be treasure in there or something!
