Firstly I'd like to say; Hi there, this is my first post in the forums though I've had alot of fun reads on it since i started playing DF over 2 years ago

Onto the topic, I recently made a new fortress where my goal is tryin' to establish a dragon farm, but ambushes from goblins (waaaay more than usual) have been driving me mad waiting for dragons to come. And since i cant turn off invaders cuz i wont get no fire breathing lizards, I desided to make a danger room and a huge military. The problem is, i just realised, the dwarves are going back and foreward between being heroes and non heroes. I would like them to be on duty at all times so heroes is the way to go, and they are all legendary in a weapon skill but still switching between hero and non hero. Non were above great in weapon skills when they started training, they are constantly on duty, so i cant really get my head around whats causing this  I couldnt find anything on the topic either :/
Does anyone know why this is happening or have experienced something like it?

I'm not quite certain what you mean by "hero", but if you mean they're switching between being weaponlords and not being weaponlords that is a known bug.

I've noticed this occur when a hero-dwarf is removed from military duty and re-enlisted or during the split-second at the end of every month where dwarves quickly shift between civilians and soldiers while they load the new month's orders.

The schedule shift is usually noticeable due to the "Urist has become a (civilian profession)" spam which is quickly followed by even more "Urist has become a (military profession)" spam at the beginning of each month.

It will correct itself after the dwarf in question earns at least some experience with their respective weapon, which won't take long if they are set to constantly train.

Edit: By hero I believe he is referring to the former heroes from version 40d, which was any dwarf that had achieved a skill level of Great or higher in a military skill. Once they had reached legendary in a skill they became champions. Some old behavior for heroes and champions likely still exist in the game, though the only one I've noticed is that their civilian skills are completely disabled upon becoming a hero.
